Our economy badly needs it and the two Michaels need to return home as much as Meng Wanzhou does.

There is every reason for hope. One of those 'Wall Street allies' and an advisor to Biden, Lawrence Summers, also attended the Shanghai meeting Greenwald refers to above. Summers is pro-China, and is well thought of by Justin Trudeau and deputy minister Freeland, who has called him her 'guru.' The reality like it or not, is that America's time in the sun of hegemon history is fading fast. China's is just beginning.

As far as the "Hunter Biden laptop" is concerned, I posted about the utterly ludicrous claimed provenance at the time. But where ever it came from, let's assume it is genuine, and the DoJ has had it or a copy for over a year, with an ongoing investigation of Hunter Biden for various crimes. If it contained a "smoking gun" or anything even close to that, do you not think AG Barr would have been delighted to issue indictments based on this evidence? Do you think he is too ethical to do that? Do you live on this planet?

On the AG Barr is ethical front, I would not take his refusal to reveal the existance of the investigation pre-election as evidence of no evidence. Apparently his refusal to do that, and his statements to the press about no evidence of electoral fraud are what prompted Trump to "resign" him. Here's a bit on the Hill discussing Barr's ideological bent - they argue he is ideologically committed to a strong executive branch, and on that basis went along with Trump's "norms-breaking" behaviour.

That is a good point about Barr. While I (a long ago lawyer) consider him extremely unethical for his actions both times he was AG, his "unitary executive" ideology does account for a lot of it. It is also the case that in the months preceding the election, Trump repeatedly demanded publicly that Biden, Hillary and Obama be charged with crimes and arrested, but Barr took no action. So there are some limits to what he was willing to do for Trump. His involvement in the Roger Stone and Michael Flynn cases was clearly unethical from my point of view, but I guess he could rationalize it using his belief in the absolute power of the president.

Regarding the Hunter Biden issue, his claimed reason for not going public about it before the election is a DoJ internal guideline (which was breached by James Comey in October, 2016). I cannot see why a direct order from the omnipotent presidency would not overrule a mere departmental practice, so I still suspect that whatever grungy stuff is on the laptop, none of it is obviously criminal.

Barr's silent complicity with the FBI/CIA and his lack of action on the laptop from hell for over a year may have something to do with alternative loyalties to higher powers than the outlier Trump not to mention those wise words of Chuck Schumer some time back on the US Intelligence Agencies having 'six ways from Sunday to get back at you.' When McCabe began overseeing the team of attorneys and high-level former EPA staffers, the agency had just initiated a “priority review” of PFOA, a perfluorinated chemical DuPont used since the 1950s to make its blockbuster nonstick coating, Teflon. At that point, the chemical had already been discovered in the drinking water of tens of thousands of people living near one of the company’s plants, in Parkersburg, West Virginia. DuPont already knew that PFOA accumulated in workers bodies and caused a wide range of health effects, including cancer, in lab animals. Over time, the chemical would be found to cause a long list of human health effects in addition to cancer.

If it deemed PFOA sufficiently toxic through the priority review, the EPA could go on to regulate it under several laws, including the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Clean Water Act. As DuPont knew, such a move could trigger hefty cleanup costs, and McCabe’s team made every effort to avoid that outcome.

This could have been much worse. Imagine if McCabe had been an appointee in a Trump administration. Then he wouldn't just have helped cover up and reduce liability for a Corporation responsible for poisoning the world, he also would have been a..fascist! Strange article. In Richmond BC the Conservatives win almost all the seats and the immigrant population is over 60% of the population and primarily Chinese. In Burnaby, an NDP stronghold,the Chinese immigrants are mostly from either Taiwan or Mainland China and they do not share the same political culture as the Kong Kong ex-pats. About 51% of Burnaby's population are immigrants and the majority of those people are from various parts of China. These are my Canadian friends and neighbours and the idea that they vote as a block because of race or country of origin is just flat out wrong.

This article is a racist trope because it is based on the idea that you can make broad generalizations about all Asians in America and worse still that the elders are all easily led sheep.
