In the category of shocking but not surprising: CNN’s @jamiegangel reports that the WH is putting huge pressure on members, and that members are saying "they want to vote to impeach but they legitimately fear for their lives and their families’ lives."

There are now accusations that at least one Republican Congressman led Trump supporters on 'reconnaissance tours' of Congress on January 5th, the day before the attack on the Congress. There is a deleted video of right-wing activist Ali Alexander claiming he colluded with congressmen and that he planning on something big on January 6th. The Washington Post notes ties between three Congressmen and Alexander, a convicted felon.

Representatives Andy Biggs (R., Ariz.), Mo Brooks (R., Ala.), and Paul Gosar (R., Ariz.) are denying any involvement in organizing last week’s rioting at the U.S. Capitol after a protest organizer claimed he “schemed” with them to put “maximum pressure on Congress while they were voting.”

Right-wing activist Ali Alexander’s claim that he had colluded with the congressmen came in a since-deleted video on Periscope unearthed by the Project on Government Oversight.

He said weeks before the storming of the Capitol that he was planning something big for January 6, the date Congress met to tally the electoral votes and affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s win.

Alexander planned to “change the hearts and the minds of Republicans who were in that body, hearing our loud roar from outside,” he said.

Meanwhile, Representative Mikie Sherrill (D., N.J.) on Tuesday claimed she saw members of Congress leading people through the U.S. Capitol on “reconnaissance” tours one day before supporters of President Trump stormed the building, though she did not name the members or explain how she knew she was witnessing a so-called reconnaissance tour.

“We can’t have a democracy if members of Congress are actively helping the president overturn the elections results,” she said. “Not only do I intend to see that the president is removed and never runs for office again and doesn’t have access to classified material, I also intend to see that those members of Congress who abetted him; those members of Congress who had groups coming through the Capitol that I saw on Jan. 5 – a reconnaissance for the next day; those members of Congress that incited this violent crowd; those members of Congress that attempted to help our president undermine our democracy; I’m going to see they are held accountable, and if necessary, ensure that they don’t serve in Congress.” ...

A spokesman for Biggs told the Washington Post that the congressman had never been in touch with Alexander or other protestors and denied involvement in organizing a rally on January 6. ...

However, the Washington Post notes that videos and posts on social media suggest ties between Alexander, who is a felon, and all three congressmen.

Gosar called Alexander “a true patriot” on Twitter and the pair both spoke at a “Stop the Steal” rally in Phoenix last month. ...

At the same event, Alexander played a video message from Biggs, who called him a “friend” and “hero.” “When it comes to January 6, I will be right down there in the well of the House with my friend from Alabama representative Mo Brooks,” Biggs said in the recording.

A spokesperson for Biggs told CNN that the congressman recorded the video at the request of Gosar’s staff. ...

In a video posted shortly after the Capitol riots on January 6, while Alexander claimed the majority of protestors were peaceful and commended those who did not enter the building, he added, “I don’t disavow this. I do not denounce this.”

Republican Congressman Mo Brooks helped incite the attack on Congress at Trump's incitement rally and many other Congressmen helped push for the use of physical force.

Standing before a crowd of thousands of MAGA-clad protesters on the National Mall on Wednesday, Representative Mo Brooks roared ... Today is the day American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass. Are you willing to do what it takes to fight for America? Louder! Will you fight for America?”

Hours later, urged on by President Trump at the same rally, rioters stormed the Capitol, where Congress was meeting to formalize Mr. Biden’s election, chanting “Hang Mike Pence,” threatening to shoot Speaker Nancy Pelosi and forcing lawmakers to evacuate the building in a scene of violence and mayhem. Afterward, police officers recovered long guns, Molotov cocktails, explosive devices and zip ties. At least five people, including a Capitol Police officer, died during the protests and the siege and in the immediate aftermath. ...

A handful of Mr. Trump’s most loyal allies in the House had gone even further in the days and weeks before the riot, urging their supporters to come to Washington on Jan. 6 to make a defiant last stand to keep him in power. They linked arms with the organizers of the protest and used inflammatory, bellicose language to describe the stakes. ...

Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Lauren Boebert of Colorado, first-term lawmakers who ran as outspoken defenders of Mr. Trump, referred to the day as Republicans’ “1776 moment.”

Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona, who for weeks promoted the Jan. 6 protest and other “Stop the Steal” events across the country more than a dozen times, repeatedly referred to Mr. Biden as an “illegitimate usurper” and suggested that Mr. Trump was the victim of an attempted “coup. Be ready to defend the Constitution and the White House,” Mr. Gosar wrote in an op-ed titled “Are We Witnessing a Coup d’État?

As rioters laid siege to the Capitol, Mr. Gosar posted a message of calm on Twitter, telling his followers, “Let’s not get carried away here.” But he wrote a far more sympathetic message on Parler, using the same photo of people scaling the walls of the building: “Americans are upset.”

Their comments have raised questions about the degree to which Republicans may have coordinated with protest organizers.

In a since-deleted tweet, Representative Pete Sessions, Republican of Texas, wrote that he “had a great meeting today with the folks from Stop The Steal,” one of the leading groups that organized last week’s rally.

And in a separate video, Ali Alexander, a far-right activist and conspiracy theorist who emerged as a leader of Stop the Steal, claimed that he, along with Mr. Brooks, Mr. Gosar and Representative Andy Biggs of Arizona, had set the Jan. 6 event in motion. “We four schemed up of putting maximum pressure on Congress while they were voting,” Mr. Alexander said in a since-deleted video, “so that who we couldn’t rally, we could change the hearts and the minds of Republicans who were in that body, hearing our loud roar from outside.”

A spokesman for Mr. Biggs denied in a statement on Monday that the lawmaker had had any role in organizing the rally. ...

Mr. Gosar appeared to be on friendly terms with Mr. Alexander, frequently tagging him in Twitter posts. At a rally late last month outside the Arizona State Capitol at which Mr. Gosar spoke, Mr. Alexander called the congressman “the spirit animal of this movement. He’s helped out where he could,” Mr. Alexander said. “He’s offered to call donors. We actually had our first D.C. march because he called me and he said, ‘You need to go to the Supreme Court.’ I said, ‘All right, my captain.’ And that’s what started that.”  ...

For his part, Mr. Brooks has remained unapologetic about his role in encouraging the rioters. “I make no apology for doing my absolute best to inspire patriotic Americans to not give up on our country and to fight back against anti-Christian socialists in the 2022 and 2024 elections,” Mr. Brooks told a local newspaper. “I encourage EVERY citizen to watch my entire rally speech and decide for themselves what kind of America they want: One based on freedom and liberty or one based on godless dictatorial power.” ...

For weeks before the rally, mimicking Mr. Trump’s tone, Republican operatives and lawmakers had used inflammatory language to describe the president’s effort to overturn Mr. Biden’s victory.

At a Turning Point USA event in December, Representative Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina encouraged attendees to “call your congressman and feel free — you can lightly threaten them. Say: ‘If you don’t support election integrity, I’m coming after you. Madison Cawthorn’s coming after you. Everybody’s coming after you,’” Mr. Cawthorn said.

Some of Mr. Trump’s closest allies in Congress, including Mr. Brooks, Mr. Gosar, Mr. Biggs and Ms. Greene, met with him at the White House in December to discuss their drive to overturn the election results. Lawmakers present described the meeting as a fairly dry one, centered on how the process would play out on the House and Senate floors. But Mr. Gosar cast the meeting to his followers as a call to action, pledging not to “accept disenfranchisement” of those who voted for Mr. Trump.

I would say that Cheney's position on impeachment is a result of factional conflict in the Republican party. She is part of that counter attack.

Yeah I think that's about right. I always wonder how much of a role personal animosity plays, but I think it makes more sense this is a power struggle. The fact that people on the left are singing the praises of a Cheney makes me think it's not impossible Trump gets the same rehabilitation treatment in 20 years when the Republicans vomit up something even more vile.

After receiving death threats, Republicans say they’re afraid to vote to impeach; Vox; January 13, 2021

Quote:

There is a disturbing reason Republicans in Congress are giving for refusing to break with President Donald Trump: They fear for their lives.

According to Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), this is a major reason why more House Republicans aren’t voting to impeach Donald Trump in the wake of the attack on the Capitol.

“The majority of them are paralyzed with fear,” Crow said in a Wednesday MSNBC appearance. “I had a lot of conversations with my Republican colleagues last night, and a couple of them broke down in tears — saying that they are afraid for their lives if they vote for this impeachment.”

Siblings of Congressman Paul Gosar want him removed from Congress because of his extremist views and actions. If their actions are tied to aiding the insurgent invaders of Congress I agree.

Three out of Republican Representative Paul Gosar's nine siblings are calling for him to be expelled from the House of Representatives

The siblings have reached out to Mr Gosar's fellow Arizona Representative, Democrat Raúl Grijalva, in an attempt to get their brother removed from Congress after the fatal Capitol riots, which they argue Mr Gosar helped encourage. Mr Gosar said he was focusing on keeping President Trumpaccountable.

For the third time in as many years, members of Mr Gosar's family are trying to end his career in politics. Mr Gosar's sister Jennifer Gosar told The Arizona Republic: "We know him to be an extremist and we took that very seriously ... I believe that my brother has been a constant perpetrator of misinformation ... I've been incredulous at the lack of accountability thus far. I would think Wednesday would be certainly a line."

Mr Gosar's brother Tim Gosar said: "He's set a dangerous sort of precedent along the 10 years he's been in office ... When you talk about what happened the other day, you're talking about treason. You're talking about overthrowing the government. That's what this is. If that doesn't rise to the level of expulsion, what does?"

Riding on the waves of the conservative Tea Party movement, Mr Gosar entered the House in 2010. The former dentist represents one of the most conservative districts in Arizona, which covers a large section of the western part of the state.

One of Mr Gosar's other siblings, David Gosar, said that he "has parroted the exact same lies that Trump has" when it comes to the election.

"Five people are dead and Congress has been attacked. Somebody has to pay a penalty for it," he said.

Mr Grijalva said some members of Congress "threw gasoline on an already-raging fire".

"If a member of congress willingly violated their oath of office and tacitly encouraged a mob to overturn the results of democratic elections, their actions should be investigated and they should face consequences. If that includes expulsion, so be it," Mr Grijalva said.

Mr Gosar proceeded with his objections to the results after the storming of the Capitol and baselessly blamed the violence on "Antifa".

Mick Mulvaney's niece listed on the permit for Trump rally that became Capitol insurrection

One piece of the report outed Maggie Mulvaney, niece to top Trump's old aide Mick Mulvaney, as the VIP Lead on the permit that Women for America First requested for the Trump rally.

According to the AP, the younger Mulvaney "worked as director of finance operations for the Trump campaign, according to her LinkedIn profile. FEC records show Maggie Mulvaney was earning $5,000 every two weeks from Trump's reelection campaign, with the most recent payment reported on November 13."

The insurrection on the capitol led to the resignation by Mick Mulvaney, who had moved from being Trump's chief of staff to United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland after March 2020. He confessed to CNBC that he wanted to resign because his reputation would likely take a hit for the rest of history, prompting people to say "'Oh yeah, you work for the guy who tried to overtake the government.'"

In Feb. 2019, Trump's IRS granted tax-exempt status to Women for America First labeling it as a "social welfare organization."

Trump News: 01/18/21

Constitutional lawyer (and zionist) Alan Dershowitz: 'Trump Impeachment Unconstitutional':

"Once he becomes 'Citizen Trump', the Senate has no power to try a private citizen. They can only try someone they have the power to remove from office. Once he's 'removed' by the end of his term, that's the end of it. There's no jurisdiction to have a trial..."

Like the 'Green Zone's 25k troops' security theatre, Trump's impeachment trial will likely turn out to be merely Dem theatrics. Which is why we're now hearing about 'postponing' it.
