Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said Sunday that Democrats will move pass a COVID-19 relief package through reconciliation, a special process that allows for a 51-majority vote, rather than the 60 votes normally required to advance legislation, if Republicans do not quickly express support for the $1.9 trillion bill.
Sanders, the incoming chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, said in an appearance on CNN’s "State of the Union" that unlike Republicans who used reconciliation to pass a tax cut bill and attempt to repeal Obamacare, Democrats will use 50 votes in the Senate, plus Vice President Kamala Harris' tie-breaking vote, to "pass legislation desperately needed by working families in this country right now."

The Constitution gives Congress the responsibility to impeach presidents who commit "high crimes and misdemeanors". After supporting the storming of the Capitol, Trump clearly falls into that category.

Like the minimum wage increase that is good news for the minority of people in the federal system but does nothing for the people in the state systems. It is also unclear what that means for the ICE facilities since they are run by Homeland Security not Justice. Here is a very good article about the private system in the US.

Since 2000, its use increased 77%, and the number of people in private federal custody — which includes prisons, half-way houses and home confinement — totaled 27,569 in 2017. While a significant historical increase, the population declined 15% since 2016, likely reflecting the continuing decline of the overall federal prison population.
Among the immigrant detention population, 26,249 people – 73% of the detained population – were confined in privately run facilities in 2017. The privately detained immigrant population grew 442% since 2002.

Biden was facing a grim time in office, with at least 70% of Republican voters and a majority of Republicans in Congress seduced by Trump’s Big Lie that he really won the election by a landslide, and that the Democrats had somehow ‘stolen’ it. It was Adolf Hitler who gave the technique that name, and it still works.
“In the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility,” Hitler wrote in ‘Mein Kampf’ (My Struggle’), “because…in the primitive simplicity of their minds (the masses) more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.”
That is what Biden faced only two weeks ago: a nightmare time in office with the ‘Big Lie’ rampant and Trump its proud purveyor. And then suddenly Trump, in his manic determination to hold onto power, sent his mob off to try a foredoomed coup in the ‘Temple of Democracy’, as American commentators pompously call it. End of game.
Trump is discredited even with a modest but significant proportion of his own base, and a growing number of Republican office-holders are in rebellion against the party’s subservience to the Tangerine Tyrant. Biden’s years in office will be enlivened by a vicious Republican civil war, quite likely ending in a permanent split on the American right.
Which will give Lucky Joe time to do some useful stuff.

The Democratic Party and its corporate media have already white-washed Joe Biden, and nothing will be demanded of him except that he not be Trump. Biden will be like his old boss Obama, not a lesser evil but a more effective one. Joe Biden is in a position to be a very dangerous president precisely because he follows Trump. The sighs of relief give him an opportunity to get away with just about anything he wants.
No one wants to be thought of as the party pooper but no one should want to be a chump either: The man who was supposed to save us from Trump's COVID-19 ineptitude now says that the disease trajectory is such that he can't do anything about the death toll which he estimates will rise to 600,000 victims. The for-profit health-care system can't produce enough hospital beds for the already sick or enough vaccine to prevent further harm. The 50 states have 50 different rules for innoculation. Some have run out of the vaccines while others are throwing away a supply that can no longer be used.
Of course, Trump will be blamed forever and the miracle that was supposed to come with a new president is nothing but cheap talk. That is not how the story will be told, however. The Trump specter will be pulled out of the closet and cheap identity politics along with it. 'Do you prefer Trump?' Can't you give Biden a chance?' 'A black woman is vice president!' Let those who want to be happy at this state of affairs enjoy the moment. Although no one else should silence themselves or stop paying attention. Many crises are coming to a head, and Kamala Harris and her wardrobe choices won't save anyone."

So this characterization of them as deplorables, and as either Nazis or Nazi-like, is not only not helpful but also contradictory in the sense that those folks who level these charges still have not been able to explain why the Trump presidency happened. [Of course they have - Putin and Julian Assange did it. Duh!] For example, some 9 million people who voted for Trump in 2016 had voted for Obama in 2012. Liberals can't explain why, after four years of constant anti-Trump rhetoric, the Trump forces expanded their ranks by another 11 million voters. So this is something in play that's a little bit more sophisticated than these people just being deplorables or Nazis.
And this is something that has to be interrogated. It has to be extracted. It has to be understood if you're going to have a politics to counter it. And right now the liberals have not understood where these elements are coming from because they have basically painted these 75 million people as a monolith of deplorables.
The neoliberals have constructed a politics that is going to result in a continuation of the same conditions, politically and economically, that created what they pretend to be most opposed to - the Trump movement. So this is the failure of imagination, the failure of critical analysis, the embracing of illusions that have characterized much of the politics in the US for a couple of decades now. And we see the consequences of that with us every day..."
