Marc Garneau now foreign affairs minister

Garneau embraces new US ties...

https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/garneau-embraces-new-u-s-ties-as-champag...

"Ottawa's new foreign minister says he will work with the incoming Biden administration in Washington to find ways to help two Canadian men imprisoned by China. Foreign Affairs Minister Marc Garneau, the former NASA astronaut who lived nearly a decade in the US, made the commitment as he took over the portfolio from Francois-Philippe Champagne in Tuesday's cabinet shuffle..."

So, well used to taking orders from Americans. A perfect choice for FAMCAN.

Seems to say it all. We have a problem with our relationship to China so he says we will talk to the US. Canada has become an embarrassment on the international stage. Sycophants get pats on the heads but no respect from their global peers. Apparently having spent many years in the US is a good thing to have on one's resume if one wants to become a Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

What to expect from Canada's new Foreign Minister Marc Garneau on Israel/Palestine

https://canadatalksisraelpalestine.ca/2021/01/21/what-to-expect-from-can...

"An attentive reader will note that nowhere in that total of 15 'priorities' [PM's 'mandate letter'] does human rights for Palestinians appear. CTIP assumes that Mr Garneau will attentively read the letter and draw the same conclusions on CTIP - that he is not to change anything with respect to Canada's ongoing support for Israel.."

If it isn't a priority it's because too few Canadians have made it so. Stop supporting Apartheid Israel!

In general Canadians don't care about "foreign affairs." It's mostly foreign to them. We also think that Canada isn't in a position to change things internationally anyways.  As it is,  it's difficult just changing things in our own country let alone foreign countries.

I wish Israel would stop its apartheid however as a Canadian I must note that we have just passed the fifth anniversary of the Canadian Human Rights decision that told the feds that their treatment of indigenous communities was a breach of our human rights  codes.

Think about that. Five fucking years and I believe they have ignored about 8 non-compliance orders. The majority of Canadians don't give a flying fuck about anybody's human rights or that would have been an election issue and would be on the news daily.

The very sad truth is that in Canada the human rights of Indigenous people has not had much public support but instead has been dependent on winning court cases, especially Supreme Court cases. Luckily our court system hasn't been politicized like it has in the U.S. or even this modest progress in Canada may never have happened. It's also been beneficial that NDP and Liberal politicians have been able to appoint many judges on their merit and they've also been able to establish human rights commissions. Maintaining a non-biased independent judiciary is vital.

SCC wins are now officially meaningless. What good does it do for a group like the Wetʼsuwetʼen to spend literally a generation taking Delgamuukw to the SCC and win the case only to have a pipeline rammed through their territory. In the meantime the Liberals and even the NDP go around to Indian Act leaders and pretend that they speak for their nations and try and ignore the hereditary Chiefs that the SCC says are the stewards of the UNDRIP rights.

'Women's rights are human-rights, and this is at the heart of Canada's feminist foreign policy'

"To me, the funniest example of Canada's approach to women's rights is its free trade agreement with Israel, which features an 'inclusive' gender lens while giving privileged trade status to illegal settlements. War crimes and colonization, but make it intersectional!"

How quintessentially Canadian Liberal to polish such an awful turd in such a wokester way!

Marc Garneau @ the UN: 'In Our Hands' [sure hope not!]

https://bit.ly/3if2QAh

"...Our commitment to human rights and the rule of law extends well beyond our shores. Canada will continue its work to promote respect for the rights of people everywhere.

Canada will continue to lead efforts to maintain judical independence, media freedoms and the rule of law. We must all continue to fight against impunity.

I stand before you to say this is not something we simply talk about. It is something we do. Two days ago we welcomed back to Canada Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, who were imprisoned by the Chinese government after Canada applied both Canadian and international law in response to a request for extradition of a Chinese citizen.

Canada observed the rule of law, and two Canadians paid a heavy price for this commitment. We did so as a matter of principle, and we are proud of the courage of our two citizens, the good faith and resilience of their families, and the determination and creativity of our diplomats. We continue to oppose the way these two fine people were treated.

And on that I want to recognize the support of our many international partners in standing with these Canadian citizens...Our solidarity in defence of human rights and international law is an important signal. We must continue to stand together united in our shared determination to defend our values and principles...

Canada is deeply commited to Israel's right as a member of the UN to live in peace and security...

The rights of Indigenous Peoples have been an area of profound national reflection in Canada due to greater awareness of past failures and persistent challenges facing First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples.

We are committed to continuing on the path to reconciliation and know the eyes of the world are on us. Earlier this year, we adopted the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and we made the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People the law of the land. The Government of Canada remains fully committed to protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples..."

And the farmer hauled another load away.

I listened to his speech and I found it very Canadian. He managed to say almost nothing for the whole time while sounding arrogant. I loved his opening remarks about having looked down on the globe and all the people in the room. Just a touch of god complex to boot. Given the amount of people in the audience it is hard to think that anyone cares what a lackey has to say.
