Seems to say it all. We have a problem with our relationship to China so he says we will talk to the US. Canada has become an embarrassment on the international stage. Sycophants get pats on the heads but no respect from their global peers. Apparently having spent many years in the US is a good thing to have on one's resume if one wants to become a Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In general Canadians don't care about "foreign affairs." It's mostly foreign to them. We also think that Canada isn't in a position to change things internationally anyways. As it is, it's difficult just changing things in our own country let alone foreign countries.

I wish Israel would stop its apartheid however as a Canadian I must note that we have just passed the fifth anniversary of the Canadian Human Rights decision that told the feds that their treatment of indigenous communities was a breach of our human rights codes.

Think about that. Five fucking years and I believe they have ignored about 8 non-compliance orders. The majority of Canadians don't give a flying fuck about anybody's human rights or that would have been an election issue and would be on the news daily.

The very sad truth is that in Canada the human rights of Indigenous people has not had much public support but instead has been dependent on winning court cases, especially Supreme Court cases. Luckily our court system hasn't been politicized like it has in the U.S. or even this modest progress in Canada may never have happened. It's also been beneficial that NDP and Liberal politicians have been able to appoint many judges on their merit and they've also been able to establish human rights commissions. Maintaining a non-biased independent judiciary is vital.

SCC wins are now officially meaningless. What good does it do for a group like the Wetʼsuwetʼen to spend literally a generation taking Delgamuukw to the SCC and win the case only to have a pipeline rammed through their territory. In the meantime the Liberals and even the NDP go around to Indian Act leaders and pretend that they speak for their nations and try and ignore the hereditary Chiefs that the SCC says are the stewards of the UNDRIP rights.

I listened to his speech and I found it very Canadian. He managed to say almost nothing for the whole time while sounding arrogant. I loved his opening remarks about having looked down on the globe and all the people in the room. Just a touch of god complex to boot. Given the amount of people in the audience it is hard to think that anyone cares what a lackey has to say.
