Trump administration 4

I've heard some variant of this a lot recently, and it's bizarre. Worse than those who owned slaves? Worse than Andrew "Trail of Tears" Jackson? Worse than Ronald "Central American death squads" Reagan? Worse than George W. Bush, who murdered half a million people in Iraq and set up a gulag that still exists? What kind of mental gymnastics do people have to do to rehabilitate these monsters in order to put Trump at the bottom of the list? Is it really about having a veneer of pleasant-feeling civility over the carnage? Will we see the same rehabilitation of Trump when the Republicans nominate the Bison Helmet Rioter / Steve Bannon ticket in 2024?

Exactly.

Historians have Trump competing with James Buchanan for who is the worst president ever.

With his mob's storming of the Capitol, historians will now consider Trump to be the worst president yet.

Historians who think they have the definitive take on this weeks after Trump has left office aren't historians. They are entertainment.

That Wikki piece has nothing to do with the academic study of history. The first question is what is the criteria being used. Some things not taken into account are the body count in wars or percentage of citizens incarcerated or any of the other measures that show how a government truly treats its people and people in foreign lands. If historians in the future do judge Trump the worst President ever then it will be because of the number of his own people he let die in a pandemic. The theatrics on Capital Hill were not the defining event of his loathsome Presidency but instead it was his disregard for life including his immigration pens that should have him in the running for the title of most hated POTUS of all time.

I agree that Trump's disregard for life  led to his putting children in pens and led to his response to the pandemic along with leading him to having unmarked soldiers grabbing people off the streets and this is the reason current historians generally  consider him to be the worst president ever. I'm sure future surveys of top historians will continue to show Trump in the very lowest tier of presidents. The Trump versus Buchanan debates will be interesting but will favour Trump. In this case he will be the best of all time as he has told us countless times that he is. "Better even than Lincoln!!!!"

"Trump's American Carnage" examines how former President Trump stoked division, violence and insurrection, from his first days as commander in chief to his last.

QAnon Believers Are Pushing New Trump Conspiracy Theories on TikTok: New theories that Trump will be sworn in as the 19th president on March 4th are swirling on social media

Under hashtags like #19thpresident (which has more than 235,000 views), or #march4th (which has more than 1.4 million views) TikTok users are propagating the idea that an obscure 1871 act made the United States a corporation and not a federal government, thus rendering any laws passed after that year moot and U.S. citizens not subject to them. According to this theory, the United States will revert back to its original form on March 4th, the date when presidents were inaugurated prior to the 1933 passage of the 20th amendment. They believe Trump will be sworn in as the 19th president of the United States. (The 18th president, Ulysses S. Grant, served between 1869 and 1877, or the time period when those who cling to this theory believe the United States “became” a “corporation.”)

QAnon Thinks Trump Will Become President Again on March 4; QAnon has started to merge with even more extreme conspiracy theories, including the “sovereign citizen” movement.

Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 19th president of the United States on March 4, 2021.

This is the latest conspiracy that QAnon followers have embraced in the wake of President Joe Biden’s inauguration last week, and extremist experts are worried that it highlights the way QAnon adherents are beginning to merge their beliefs — about the world being run by an elite cabal of cannibalistic satanist pedophiles —with even more extreme ideologies.

Maybe they think it's 1921.

All American presidents are monsters. But some get better press. Personally I would put the much loved-by-brainwashed-know-nothings, mass murdering Middle East warmonger -kill list every Monday, drone king, 2008 bankster crash test dummy, Ukrainian Nazi backing, Russiagate initiator, and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Barack Obama on your shitlist too.  As for those kids in cages etc...

Fact-checking Biden on use of cages for immigrants during Obama administration.

"Joe Biden claimed that a key difference between the administration of Barack Obama and Donald Trump, is that Obama didn't 'lock people up in cages.' We rate Biden's claim false."

Obama held more than double the number of children in shelters compared to Trump

Immigration fact check: ‘Who built the cages?’; LA Times

The Obama administration did build the cages Trump alluded to. The facility Trump mentioned was built with chain-link fencing by the Obama administration in 2014 in a warehouse in Nogales, Ariz. The makeshift shelter was built in response to an exodus of unaccompanied immigrant children from Central America. But those children did not arrive with their parents; they were unaccompanied. The shelter was not being used as part of a child separation policy, and U.S. border agents did not separate those children from their parents.

Fact check: Obama administration approved, built temporary holding enclosures at southern border; USA Today

The initial claim correctly attributes migrant holding facilities to the Obama administration. However, the meme doesn't elaborate on the intended purpose of the facilities: to hold migrant children for 72 hours before releasing them to the Department of Health and Human Services for further placement.

Trump’s attempt to blame Obama for family separations, debunked: Obama separated families under extraordinary circumstances. Trump made it standard procedure.

According to multiple sources, the President wanted families separated even if they came in at a legal port of entry and were legal asylum seekers. The President wanted families separated even if they were apprehended within the US. He thinks the separations work to deter migrants from coming.

Sources told CNN that Nielsen tried to explain they could not bring the policy back because of court challenges, and White House staffers tried to explain it would be an unmitigated public relations disaster.

”He just wants to separate families,” said a senior administration official.

...

In response, Trump — as he is wont to do — tried to blame it on Obama, even when he really should be looking in the mirror.
