USA 2024 Presidential Election

Here we go again - off to a good start as usual.

GOP chairwoman suggests mainstream media will be banned from hosting 2024 primary debates

On Tuesday, Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told Sean Spicer on Newsmax TV that the GOP is likely to bar the mainstream media from hosting their 2024 presidential primaries.

"As you know, I worked with you and other members of the RNC in 2016 to deal with the debate process, to talk about what entities would have an RNC-sanctioned debate ahead of its cycle," said Spicer, who served as former President Donald Trump's first press secretary and was notorious for his lies to the press corps. "I know it's real early, but this is just who I am, the questions I ask. Based on what you've seen so far, is the RNC willing to set up a similar system and ensure that these mainstream media outlets that have gone against this president, that have made it very clear that they are mouthpieces for the DNC or the Biden administration, will not host an RNC-sanctioned debate?"

"Absolutely," said McDaniel. She added that, "The Commission on Presidential Debates ... absolutely puts their thumb on the scale heading into the general, and they don't negotiate with the RNC; they work with the candidate directly. But for them to take the second debate virtual, which absolutely hurt voters, to have the first debate after 16 states had started voting, was just egregious. And there was bias on that committee; it's supposed to be non-partisan. So we're going to be looking at the whole process preparing for 2024, and it does start right now."

"If Trump is the nominee in 2024 he will beat Biden. Take it to the bank."

LOL.

I find the idea that the best candidate for President next time will be an octogenarian strangely bizarre.  If the Democrats run Biden again they will be handing whoever runs for the Republicans the election. If they could find a competent Governor or Senator that was capable of running on a progressive platform because they have been speaking truth to power for twenty years and are in their late fifties Trump would become the joke in the election, if he got nominated.

So tell me Josh who do the Democrats have in the 48 to 65 age range that have been consistently for the ERA, Green New Deal and  de-militarization of budgets for at least a decade.

Mind you if its a rematch of Biden versus Trump the sale of popcorn will spike on the global market.

A lot of Bernie supporters will be getting behind Nina Turner, who fits your requirements pretty well. She might even have a chance of winning the nomination if she gets into congress in the special election this spring.

Nina Turner is great but after watching how the last two Democratic primaries worked I think saying she has more than the slimmest of a chance is extremely naeive.

I agree she looks great but she is missing that leadership experience at either a Senate or Governor level. I think any leftist needs to have a resume that is very long to have any chance of making it through the primaries. That is if there is a possibility in any scenario that the DNC would allow a left wing nominee.

Being vice-president, I think Kamala Harris is the likely person to get nominated if Biden doesn't run. I think Trump will probably not run again but if he does he will win the Republican nomination but he has little chance of winning the general election since he's going to be facing a lot of legal troubles before 2024. Trump's legal troubles may even sideline any chance he has of running again.

True but I was looking for a left wing candidate in the party to run against establishment candidates like her.

It is partly a generational problem and not restricted to the US.

When it comes to electoral politics, my generation has produced the most milquetoast crop in modern history. Maybe it can be blamed on the fact that we have never had the numbers to significantly sway things like Boomers and now Millenials. This could have disproportinately rewarded the bland and subservient but in any case that is who we seem to have (Obama, Trudeau, Beto etc.) Ardern has looked really good to many but partly because of how awful her cohort is.

Of the squad, Rashida Tlaib impresses me in her ability to communicate in a working class register about domestic and foreign policy issues. She obviously doesn't have a lot of experience either but when I listen to her, she sounds like someone that could be in my union or live down the street.
