The Dropout Who Created Bellingcat, An Intelligence Agency for the People

Finally light is being case over the plethora of nonsense that permeates throughout our societies, including the internet discussion boards. If you recognize yourself take a bow - you deserve it!

Yea, like the Russians didn't shoot down that Malaysian plane over Ukraine in 2014, and the US found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Most people recognize most of the BS as soon as they see it, but it is constructive to see the absurd fairy tales documented for all to see.
Good on Bellingcat!

Bellingcat - Not as Advertised...

"Reuters, BBC and Bellingcat..."

kropotkin1951

I find Grayzone to be a credible site and this piece based on actual e-mail trails seems to belie what this book by Eliot Higgins is peddling.

"In several proposals to the British Foreign Office, Reuters boasted of a global influence network of 15,000 journalists and staff, including 400 inside Russia.

The UK FCO projects were carried out covertly, and in partnership with purportedly independent, high-profile online media outfits including Bellingcat, Meduza, and the Pussy Riot-founded Mediazona. Bellingcat’s participation apparently included a UK FCO intervention in North Macedonia’s 2019 elections on behalf of the pro-NATO candidate.

The intelligence contractors that oversaw that operation, the Zinc Network, boasted of establishing “a network of YouTubers in Russia and Central Asia” while “supporting participants [to] make and receive international payments without being registered as external sources of funding.” The firm also touted its ability to “activate a range of content” to support anti-government protests inside Russia."

I was in the Tyee website a few minutes ago and it seems that Grayzone is being quoted by many readers and this article is a lead zeppelin that has pissed off many readers. Apparently people with critical thinking skills can tell self promotional bullshit when they read it and compare it to the facts.

The Bellingcat Research Collective: War Propaganda Masquerading as 'Citizen Journalism'

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2016/10/03/bell-013.html

"The Bellingcat 'research collective' is a web-site established in 2014 by Eliot Higgins. Originally from Leicester in the UK, Higgins is, as of February, a senior fellow in the Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab and Future Europe Initiative.

Despite having no background in weapons analysis beyond that supposedly derived from computer gaming and in Higgins' own words, 'what I learned from Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rambo,' he was quickly identified by the international media as a ready source of quotes that could be palmed off as 'independent', while hewing to the anti-Russia line of the US and its NATO allies..."

Yea right, and the Russians didn't shoot down the Malaysian airliner over Ukraine in 2014 - great critical thinking skills at work here, that's obvious!

Correct. They didn't. And there's a thread where that is made clear. But this vile propagandist Bellincrap one is a big fail.

Russia has never done anything wrong. And Putin is the second coming.  Don't you know?

NDPP

Don't worry, the friends of Bellingcat agree with you and are working on 'building back better.'

It must be really boring living in a mono-chromatic world.

And now we will get back to regular programing after the ads for this imperial shilling company. Tell me NR that you at least make some money off of your trolling and spamming.

Bellingcat is the Pete Buttigieg of "investigative journalism." Nice and palatable and non threatening. Who cares if it is funded by the National Endowment for Democracy or worked for McKinsey? Forget about those disturbing things you might learn about your own government in Wikileaks. Sleep.

'Truly an intelligence service for the people!'

"Bellingcat, just a 'small organization with 20 employees...up against the entire internet?' that gets employed by the British Foreign Office's cut-outs to swing elections for NATO's hand-picked candidates. Truly an intelligence service for the people!'*

*Unlike that nasty 'hostile intelligence service' WikiLeaks and Julian Assange!

Bellingcaught: who is the mysterious author of Bellingcat's attacks on opcw whistleblower?

https://thegrayzone.com/2021/03/24/author-bellingcat-opcw-whistleblower/

"After publishing fraudulent claims in a bid to smear OPCW whistleblowers, Bellingcat has been caught in another subterfuge that contradicts its stated allegiance to 'transparency and accountability.' It's self-described 'groundbreaking investigations', especially those aimed at Russia and Syria, have led to fawning western media endorsements of its claims to be 'an intelligence agency for the people.'

But Bellingcat's carefully crafted public image as an 'open source' outlet is belied by its extensive NATO government ties and a conspicuous pattern of conduct in line with its state sponsors' interests..."

Any group funded or endorsed by National Endowment for Democracy is a group I have no time for (and has no real credibility). Love the cutesy name he/they came up with for this so-called "open-source journalism". We have already suffered enough with media concentration and the resulting cutbacks to decent investigative and foreign correspondence journalism.
