Biden-Kerry International Climate Politricks

https://www.counterpunch.org/2021/02/01/biden-kerry-international-climat...

"...There's now a fair question that cuts to the heart of financing: can Biden be trusted with such promises - because justifiable fury has emerged in the US working class, that the $2000 covid-19 survival and stimulus check per adult that Biden promised he would send out when he assumed power last week will actually be only $1400 and will only arrive in March..."

Just more  lies.

Americans already have received $600 and Biden is trying to get Americans the other $1,400 which makes $2,000. Imagine that. And Biden's being blocked at every opportunity by the GOP. Americans can thank their lucky stars the Democrats are in power. And I'm confident Biden will deliver.

Against Climate Gloom and Doom

When given a chance, life finds a way. Here are some reasons to keep hoping — and fighting.

HumpbackWhaleFlukeSunset.jpg

Environmental scholar Elin Kelsey suggests that the conservation of coastal ecosystems hinges on hope. Photo via Shutterstock.

[Editor’s note: As the environmental problems facing our world compound, despair may feel like a rational response. In her new book ‘Hope Matters: Why Changing the Way We Think Is Critical to Solving the Environmental Crisis,’ environmental scholar Elin Kelsey makes an evidence-based argument for choosing hope over despair. Kelsey holds up examples of how ecosystems — including along our coasts and in our ocean — have managed to rebound from damage when given the chance, illustrating nature’s impressive resilience. By sharing these case studies, Kelsey offers reasons to reject apathy and to mobilize. Only if we believe there’s an opportunity to make a real positive impact will we find the motivation to fight for the protection and restoration of ecosystems we depend on. In this condensed excerpt, Kelsey shares a few hope-filled success stories specific to coastal ecosystems.]

AOC and Bernie Are Teaming Up to Get Biden to Declare Climate Change a National Emergency

“We are in the midst of a climate emergency. It is time for the United States to act like it.”

By Samir Ferdowsi

AOC and Bernie Sanders are teaming up to declare the climate crisis a national emergency—but the only person who can make that happen is President Joe Biden.

The National Climate Emergency Act of 2021, introduced on Tuesday by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Sanders, and Rep. Earl Blumenauer, would require the president to enact a state of national emergency, which would give him more power to direct resources and money to reverse the effects of the climate crisis. Experts say that’s still possible—although the world is getting dangerously close to a “point of no return.”

US climate summit: another chance for China, US after Alaska talks?

https://bit.ly/3v5XtY0

"While the memory of the China-US Alaska talks in March is still fresh, another opportunity for the two countries is around the corner as Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend a US-led virtual climate summit at the invitation of his US counterpart Joe Biden on Thursday.

And expectations for the two states to make a breakthrough in climate cooperation is getting higher, especially after a recently released joint statement which says the two will make joint efforts to implement the Paris Climate Agreement..."

Putin announces new emission quotas and corporate responsbility for environmental damage as Russia begins to get tough on polluters

https://on.rt.com/b6jy

"We must respond to the challenges of climate change, adapt agriculture, industry, utilities, the entire infrastructure,' Putin said. We must create an industry to recycle carbon emissions, achieve a reduction in their volume and introduce strict control and monitoring.'

Climate change has become a serious concern for Russia. In October, speaking to the Valdai Discussion Club, he highlighted how global warming could adversely affect Russia's infrastructure, as 65% of the country's territory is made up of permafrost, and any drastic change could have disastrous consequences..."

Even Bloombergs contains relevant facts. Canadians have no reason to point fingers at anyone. In 2019, CO2 emissions for China were 8.12 tons per capita. In Canada we use 18.58 tons per capita, over twice the Chinese person's usage. So Keeney O'Toole I guess for some reason you see your mission in life as the righteous amplification of US war propaganda. The headline is the propaganda and as one scrolls through various media platforms imperial minions make sure that the misleading and biased headlines are everywhere.

Still, China also has the world’s largest population, so its per capita emissions remain far less than those of the U.S. And on a historical basis, OECD members are still the world’s biggest warming culprits, having pumped four times more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than China since 1750.

The Big Melt

By Christopher Pollon10 May 2021

This is Klinaklini, the largest glacier in Western North America beyond the Alaskan border. As this giant melts, so go B.C.’s more than 16,000 other mountain glaciers — and the pace is fast accelerating. In mere decades, Klinaklini will be gone.

By century’s end B.C. will lose 70 per cent of its glacial ice. The effects will imperil life on the coast for everything from salmon to grizzly bears, plankton to people.

Today begins a three-part series telling the story of the Big Melt, and what comes after.

How The Big Melt Will Change Life for People and Nature

As BC’s coastal mountain glaciers recede the effects alter ecosystems. Can human engineering begin to compensate? Second in a series.

World’s Largest Iceberg Breaks Off of Antarctica

The chunk of ice is larger than the state of Rhode Island

Because the ice shelf that this berg calved from was already floating on water, the event won't directly impact sea levels. However, ice shelves help to slow the flow of glaciers and ice streams into the sea; so indirectly, the loss of parts of an ice shelf eventually contributes to rising seas, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). The NSIDC also says that the continent of Antarctica, which is warming at a faster pace than the rest of the planet, holds enough frozen water to raise global sea levels by 200 feet (60 meters). Scientists don't think that human-induced climate change caused the calving of A-76 or its nearby predecessor, A-74.

To bad my MLA and her friends on the government benches are allowing this. Its hard to elect a government that will actually deal with the environment as a priority not an after thought or green wash.
