Here's an interesting video on which Jeffrey Sachs, of all people, disrupts a BBC interview by pointing out that the framing of the show is ridiculously anti-China and pro-US. Michael Walker and Aaron Bastani discuss the incident.

However I love his first hand accounts of what it is like to live in China. I find Gweilo60 very interestig for the same reason. This video gives a pretty good overview of differences in legal norms for people's every day lives.

NDP foreign affairs critic Jack Harris labeled any interference in the HSF award choice as “shameful and plays into the hands of the Communist leadership of China.” Harris also told Globe and Mail reporter Steven Chase that the award to Tsai would be “an indicator of how the free world is united against China’s bullying tactics.”

If Harris had stopped at “the free world is united against China’s bullying” it would have simply represented an example of his increasingly common China bashing. But Harris also lauded the HSF as “among the free world’s most significant defence meetings.” On Wednesday NDP MPs backed a Conservative motion in the House of Commons, which passed unanimously, supporting giving an award to Tsai and maintaining HSF’s funding.

Sponsored by NATO, DND and military companies, the HSF is based in Washington. It was set up by a neocon who advised the Harper government and was strongly promoted by arch militarist John McCain.

More cf warmongering military warnings to Canucklheads of big outlays on America's behalf with more 'investments' to come...

Canada's top soldier says the West faces being outmatched in military defence by China

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-canadas-top-soldier-say...

"Canada's acting top soldier says China's investments in defence capabilities means the Western military alliance faces the prospect of being technologically outgunned for the first time since the early years of the Second World War. Acting chief of the defence staff Lieutenant-General Wayne Eyre was speaking to the Senate Committee on National Security and Defence Monday and was asked about China's expanding military capabilities in the Pacific and whether he was concerned the West was not keeping pace.

The Canadian government's latest budget, however, was tabled Monday and contained no new funds earmarked for such concerns. It announced nearly $850 million over five years for contributions to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization alliance, as well as $252 million over five years for continental defence through the North American Aerospace Defence Command.

'China is imposing its will on neighbours. We see that constantly,' Lt-Gen Eyre told the senate committee, adding he believes the 'threat to the rules-based international order is significant.' The acting defence chief said Russia's stepped-up military activities in the Arctic- and increased interest from China - are reasons why Canada needs to 'put more focus on continental defence..."

I'm truly shocked and appalled. How is the USA supposed to defend Canada and the ' rules-based international order' against the yellow peril with this measely $1,102,000,000 Canadian contribution? I'm sure we can and will do better. Watch this space for further announcements. Especially since the Libs, Cons and NDP have all signalled they're 'ready, aye ready.'

PS: With Wayne Eyre having previously served as Deputy Commanding General of Operations for the US Army's XVIII Airborne Corps in 2012, in which role he was deployed to Afghanistan, and Defence Minister Sajjan himself 'serving' in US 'counter-insurgency' operations in Afghanistan, I'm sure these two and our other highly placed American 'friends' will give them all the blood and treasure they require...

Canada unfortunately still has its white man's burden of keeping the brown people in check so it cannot restrict imposing its will on other nations to merely its neighbours. We are currently subjecting the people of the following countries to financial degradation and in some cases that includes greatly increased starvation and disease.

Canadian sanctions are imposed under the United Nations Act (UNA), the Special Economic Measures Act (SEMA) or the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act (JVCFOA). For specific information about the sanctions regime imposed against countries or individuals, consult the relevant regulations. These can be found on the Regulations pages linked below. More information on the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Regulations can be found on the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act page.

Canada has imposed sanctions in relation to the following countries:

Canada has implemented mechanisms to prevent the concealment and transfer of funds or assets used to finance terrorism. These allow specified measures to be applied to listed terrorist entities.

Your comments are hilarious. I guess that is a lot like calling your party the Democratic party. You certainly have a very rigid view of communism if you think it uni-dimensional. Marx's writings have been used by many and never in the exact same way. Marx is really vague on specifics of micro-economic, just in case you have not actually read anything by him.

China is allowing a diverse business climate and all you can say it seems they are not true to the ideology that you don't understand but that you hate and think is evil. I believe that syndicalism is the truest form of communism so I like both Mondragon and Huawei although both are definitely multi-national corporations operating inside the global capitalist system and both have a very controlled management structure despite worker ownership. If you want to talk about the benefits of various economic models then tell me why do you think China is not on right road to providing for its people?

I liked this so I stole it from someone random on the internet. "Kropotkin's anarcho-communism is achieved locally and is entirely compatible with communism while Marx's socialism becomes communism when the worker's state no longer has to protect itself from capitalism and ceases to have a reason to exist."

Thus, US aggression twoard the alliance between Russia and China cannot be explained away as a battle between one imperialist world order and another. The Globe and Mail: Regime Change in China is Not Only Possible but Imperative

https://twitter.com/AlanRMacleod/status/1388409712153137155

"It's insane how they just come out and say it..."

kropotkin1951

China’s constitution puts the Communist Party above the law, and recognizes no limits to its authority. And, by disregarding international law in the South China Sea, tearing up an international treaty in order to extinguish political freedom in Hong Kong and committing genocide in Xinjiang, the regime has demonstrated beyond a shred of doubt that it extends its authority to whatever length feasible.

Canada's media is so democratic and free. David Kenneth Roy Thomson, 3rd Baron Thomson of Fleet speaks for the common person through his media, including the Toronto newspaper the Globe. Here is a perfect propaganda piece where it repeats three lies as self evident truths requiring no proof.

1.  disregarding international law in the South China Sea.

2. tearing up an international treaty

3. committing genocide in Xinjiang

1. Whose interpretation of international law?

2. What treaty? Britain had no treaty with China over Hong Kong. They did agree that the Hong Kong, British based legal system would remain in place to govern its financial, stock and real estate markets. If the British had let the Chinese in Hong Kong run the show then maybe there would be some democratic rights that they agreed too, however the British always appointed the Governor and he was directly responsible only to the British government.

3. committing genocide in Xinjiang? One more incident of the British big lie. Masters of propaganda are far more subtle.

Goebbels did describe the big lie in different language in an article he wrote in 1941, “Churchill’s Lie Factory,” but he was accusing the British of the ploy:

"The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous."

Randall Bytwerk argues that neither Hitler nor Goebbels would admit to lying. Goebbels, “always maintained that propaganda had to be truthful. That doesn’t mean he didn’t lie, but it would be a pretty poor propagandist who publicly proclaimed that he was going to lie.”

Here is a good profile of one of Canada's longest running China demonizers. David Kilgour reminds me of babble's own Kenney O'Toole, aka North Report.

David Kilgour, whether holding political office or not, has proven himself to be a major figure cheerleading for more direct confrontation with China in an age of worsening relations with China as the Second Cold War takes shape. This Sinophobic behavior is indicated by both: his present and past actions of using trumped-up charges of human rights abuses regarding China’s policies in Tibet, and debunked claims of China’s organ harvesting of political prisoners and minority groups.

These charges have been fully scrutinized by closer examination of the errors and omissions in the Kilgour-Matas report, the policy reforms taken by China in addressing organ harvesting, and the fact that all of the accusations were relayed through the far right Falun Gong cult rather than; a cult that Kilgour works closely with to this day.

Canada-China relations continue to deteriorate in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and growing Sinophobia, and calls for the overthrow of the Chinese government are entertained outright by anti-Chinese press in Canada and the US. Canadians concerned about the drive to a Cold War and potentially open war with China must oppose the dangerous push of anti-China hawks such as David Kilgour, for the Trudeau government to further intensify their current anti-China foreign policy direction.

Community leaders call for action on anti-Asian hate crimes in Vancouver

----------------

VANCOUVER — Leaders of the Chinese-Canadian community say the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes across Vancouver and North America suggests the population has not been accepted as a part of the wider society.

"The alarming rise of anti-Asian hate in Canada and south of the border shows Asians have not been fully accepted in North America, even if we have been here for generations," she said. "Anti-Asian racism has always been here."

Lee said COVID-19 may have played a role in the rise of racist incidents, but added the tension has been around longer than the pandemic.

Vancouver police reported a 717 per cent rise in anti-Asian hate crime in 2020 compared with 2019. The majority of incidents occurred last May.

kropotkin1951

This is a very predictable outcome to state sponsored hate speech. Chinese people not only started this pandemic but they commit genocide because they do not share our values but instead are demonic communists.

JKR

Under the surface there has always been a lot of anti-Chinese bigotry here in Vancouver. Covid has given a lot of bigots the impetus to spew their irrational hatred. A very high priority here in Vancouver is going to be supporting multiculturalism more than we have. I think Chinese Canadians have been a primary reason Vancouver is such a great place for us lucky enough to live here!

I lived in Burnaby for 20 years and its diversity is what I loved the most. It was almost a cultural shock to move back to the Island and into our very white communities. Fighting racism is an ongoing thing in Canada. I will not let racist behaviour go unchallenged in my public spaces and have stopped going to certain relatives houses because I can't see myself telling them what they can and cannot say in their own homes.

It goes without saying that the Zionist plan provided both the radicalization from the bottom AND the dictatorship propaganda against their rivals.

When you hold the megaphone and the mercenaries, nation after nation will succumb to the Zionist trap of Islamic radicalization.

This process continues today via ISIS and sectarian mercenaries like some Kurdish minorities, and in case of Uyghurs in an attempt to Balkanize and defeat China as an emerging super power.

Tough to do when over 90% of the people support the central government. But Canadians know in their heart of hearts that despite the objective facts about how bad liberal democracy is for meeting the needs of the masses we have been brain washed to believe it is still better than all the rest. Mr. Magoo is our national mascot. The environment is what the Chinese people want the focus on next and that is what they expect to get from their government. We get a liberal democracy where our governments of all stripes are allowing and encouraging pipelines and dirty energy expansion, while claiming its China that wants our tar sands gunk meanwhile we cannot provide clean drinking water to our indigenous communities.

Our 2016 survey reveals that Chinese citizens are most concerned about air pollution, with 34% naming it as the most important environmental issue. This is followed in perceived importance by food safety (19%), climate change (16%), and water pollution (12%). Sorted by place of residency, urban dwellers are disproportionally likely to view climate change as the most serious environmental issue, while rural villagers are more likely to be concerned about water pollution. https://ash.harvard.edu/files/ash/files/final_policy_brief_7.6.2020.pdf

I have been reading PZ Myers' blog Pharyngula for quite a few years, and he has become my main resource when I need an expert opinion on something biological. Well, he says that the bulk of the scientific community think it is a waste of time and resources to be researching whether SarsCov2 escaped from a lab, since that is a very low probability hypothesis.

PZ Myers wrote:

I don’t think the scientific community is divided. There are a few scientists who think the lab leak hypothesis is possible and should be investigated more (but they lack any evidence), while the majority are saying “Wha…? But we already know viruses evolve rapidly, and that there are vast numbers of unknown viruses lurking in natural reservoirs, so why are you asking us to waste time on the least likely explanation?” And so it will go, round and round, with major news organizations feeding the conspiracy theories and paranoia.

Meanwhile, the strongest piece of evidence the conspiracy theorists can muster is the claim that the Chinese have been dodgy about allowing investigators in. This is nonsense. The head of the Wuhan labs, Zheng-Li Shi, explains.
