The South China Sea highlights just how great it is to be a vassal state of the US. Its been over 120 years since the US first "liberated" the Philippines from the Spanish. They have been "democratic" allies and under the umbrella of Uncle Sam's largess for all this time. You would think somehow they would have managed to develop a system for their people that gave them more than starvation after all that is what US freedom and democracy promises does it not?. They have had 120 years to get it right.

Philippines is 125th on the GDP per capita list at $3,373 UD  China is 69th with $10,839 UD.  Not hard to see which system takers cares of the needs of the population better.

This is what it looks like when the G7 and its friends come to Canada.

Imperial powers being cheered on by Western idiots who for some reason want to start a shooting war with a country that can take out Vancouver or Seattle with a nuke, at will. How fucking stupid are people who cheer on war mongers.

On Wednesday, Taiwan's defense minister, Chiu Kuo-cheng, said China could be ready to launch a "full-scale" invasion of the island by 2025, adding that "they currently have the ability" to attack, but they would have to "pay a price."

If they can wait a mere four years so they don't have to "pay a price" I guess they will. This US war mongering is absurd. China is not going to invade Taiwan unless the US military tries to annex part of its territory for a military bases. The Chinese mainland is both Taiwan's largest export market and import market. If the US and its NATO toadies were not stirring the pot the people would be just going about their lives.

Analysts say Beijing is becoming increasingly concerned that Taiwan's government is moving the island towards a formal declaration of independence and it wants to warn President Tsai Ing-wen against taking steps in that direction.

President Tsai, however, has repeatedly said that Taiwan is already an independent state, making any formal declaration unnecessary.

On Thursday, Chinese defence ministry spokesman Wu Qian defended the recent military activities near Taiwan, saying they were "necessary actions to address the current security situation in the Taiwan Strait and to safeguard national sovereignty and security".

"They are a solemn response to external interference and provocations by 'Taiwan independence' forces," he added.

"We warn those 'Taiwan independence' elements - those who play with fire will burn themselves, and Taiwan independence means war."

The US is obviously in the area out of self-interest. Even so Taiwan wants their protection from China. They don't want reunification. Don't they deserve self-determination?  I have no doubt that were it not for the US China would have annexed Taiwan long ago.

Unless there is a major change, realistically, what recourse does the Philippines have here?
