Having lost the war the Americans leave Afghanistan

Contrary to what Biden said, US warfare in Afghanistan is set to continue

https://www.mediamonitors.net/contrary-to-what-biden-said-u-s-warfare-in...

"...And while the big-type headlines and prominent themes of media coverage are filled with flat-out statements that the US war in Afghanistan will end come September, the fine print of coverage says otherwise. No matter what the White House and the headlines say, US taxpayers won't stop subsidizing the killing in Afghanistan while there is no end to the bombing and 'special operations' that remain shrouded in secrecy..."

China has a BIG Plan for Post-US Afghanistan - and its worth Billions

"As the United States exits Afghanistan, Beijing is preparing to swoop into the war-torn country and fill the vacuum left by the departed US and NATO troops. China is poised to make an exclusive entry into post-US Afghanistan with its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source close to government officials in Afghanistan told the Daily Beast that Kabul authorities are growing more intensively engaged with China on an extension of the $62 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) - the flagship project of BRI, which involves the construction of highways, railways and energy pipelines between Pakistan and China - to Afghanistan..."

If the people of Afghanistan want prosperity then doing business with their largest and most prosperous neighbour is very important. They will have access to the largest consumer market on the planet. What is the West or Russia going to offer in comparison? For the Chinese they see development in the rural areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan as their best defense against jihadism. Terrorists love poverty stricken areas because middle class people are not as susceptible to their zealotry.

As the NATO backed Afghan puppet regime crumbles, Canada must not abandon the lives of its Afghan interpreters, agents and other personnel. If Ottawa can move heaven and earth to rescue Al Qaeda's White Helmets from liberated Syria, it can and must move quickly to do the same with its endangered collaborators and their families in Afghanistan.

Hmm I tuned into the CBC for a few minutes earlier this morning and this was exactly the message they were pushing. It is a Canadian tradition and in my view one of the reasons we have right wing politics as a norm. It started after WWII when we let in many Nazi collaborators because they were "nationalist" not Nazi. When the Iranian people over threw the Shah we let in all his minions who could afford to move to the North Shore. Canada has always been a safe haven for people fleeing the wrath of their neighbours because of their imperial connections. They often end up in the richest areas and seamlessly enter our ruling elite. Since they are fleeing with the sovereign wealth of their county its a double win for Canada, new capital and new imperial minded rich people.

My 'message' and its intent is, I assure you, not that of the CBC...

Escobar: New 'Great Game' Goes Back to Basics

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-new-great-game-gets-back-...

"...The SCO [Shanghai Cooperation Council] will hold a 3 in 1: meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers, The SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group, and a conference titled 'Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity, Challenges and Opportunities.'

At the same table, then, we will have Wang Yi, his very close strategic partner Sergey Lavrov and, most importantly, Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar. They'll be debating trials and tribulations after the hegemon's withdrawal and the miserable collapse of the myth of NATO 'stabilizing' Afghanistan.

The SCO's joint statement on Wednesday, will be particularly enlightening, perhaps detailing how the organization plans to coordinate a de facto Afghan peace process farther down the road. In this scenario, the SCO now has the chance to implement what it has actually been discussing for years: That only an Asian solution to the Afghan drama applies.

You mean except for the exceptions. They may have to helicopter themselves out of their green zone in the end if they decide to prop up the collaborationist government instead of leaving. I personally loved watching the TV pictures of the US fleeing Saigon and cheered heartily. I will do the same for the people of Afghanistan.

I won't. The NLF weren't mortal enemies of women and girls, far from it. I don't support collaboration with US - or other - imperialism anwhere, but this will mean dire days for the female sex (and any visible LGBT people)... Not to mention us atheists.

kropotkin1951

I am extremely sorry for all the pain and sorrow that our leaders have inflicted on the people of Afghanistan. They had a government that had full women's rights and we funded the mujahedin and that socialist government invited their Soviet neighbour in to help against our interference and the rest is a long sad history. Peace can only come when all foreigners are gone and I hope the Afghan people get back to where they were before we caused this chaos of perpetual civil war.

Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu hit out at the US recently: 'I can say one think here, and it's simply logical: why are you withdrawing if you basically stand there behind the fence, trying to look through the gaps to see what is going on over there? The answer is absolutely clear: This is an attempt to take root in the central Asian region.'

They will leave Afghanistan like they have left Syria and Iraq. The Taliban seem to be having an easy time against the proxy army. Somehow it seems everyone in even a modest leadership role in the regime is trying to get on a plane to a NATO country. I can't for the life of me think why the regular troops are just dropping their weapons and hoping no one notices them.

Like Vietnam they will not leave until the Taliban takes Kabul but then it is going to be a wild dash for the exits. Unfortunately it likely means that the US air force will continue killing Afghans for the foreseeable future.

Yes they will and I doubt if they will make the same mistake this time of allowing Saudi jihadists to occupy their mountains. The Chinese and Pakistani's have promised good things if they act like a government and not ISIS. Before they got blamed for the Saudi attack on the World Trade Center they were a run of the mill nasty authoritarian government who got into power because of how corrupt and brutal the Western backed Northern Alliance was when they took power over the socialist modern government that was Soviet backed. We shall see how it plays out in the future but the first thing is for all the foreign occupiers including the mercenaries to leave. The Taliban is already securing all the borders and opening talks with its neighbours no matter how the emphasis in the West is on the fate of the collaborators left behind.

Biden's withdrawal seems too deliberately swift, disorderly and cruel, even for them. The imminent collapse of their Afghan proxy seems deliberately planned. Watch for signs of a hidden agenda involving 'steering' collateral damage onto Afghanistan's neighbours and attempts to destabilize US regional enemies/rivals post exit, as well as renewed attempts to revive the myth of US imperialist intervention as a protective, humanitarian beneficent force.

josh

This is not sudden.  Biden advised getting out in 2009.  But Obama went with the generals.  This time Biden overruled the generals.

This implosion comes despite the United States having poured more than $83 billion in weapons, equipment and training into the country’s security forces over two decades.

If China helps Afghanistan develop economically both China and Afghanistan will be long term beneficiaries after decades of immense Afghani suffering. It would probably take something like a trillion US$ to get Afghanistan into economic shape.

US officials sent out to Afghanistan knew that it was a Washington Ponzi scheme. Billions were disappearing into the pockets of contractors and warlords. Only the arms manufacturers were happy. The US was massively bombing the country every year, the only reason that it was still able to be there. US officials confessed as much to government watchdogs, and the Washington Post managed to get those interviews and publish them in 2019. Nobody believed in the mission. There was no mission. There was a morass of corruption and incompetence. Many of the regional warlords under the new government were not easier on women or minorities than the Taliban had been, and were fundamentalists of a different stripe.

Joe Biden knew all this. He is the consummate insider. He was the one who decided to blow the whistle on the Ponzi scheme. Of course, when such a scheme is revealed, a lot of institutions collapse and a lot of people get hurt.

Kabul has a population of 4.3 million people. I have to wonder why these few thousands are so desperate to leave. The NATO backed government, by all reports, was a corrupt narco state. I wonder if that has anything to do with their haste.
