Syria warns of 'serious repercussions' after Israel launches airstrike on Aleppo

https://twitter.com/PressTV/status/1417609063727341572

"The Syrian Foreign Ministry in a statement warned that the regime in Tel Aviv will bear 'full responsibility' of consequences resulting from its unrelenting military attacks against the war-torn country.

The statement added that the aerial aggression by Tel Aviv coincided with missile attacks by al-Nusra Front terrorists in parts of Aleppo. The attacks were launched from the group's hideouts in northwestern Idlib Province, the last major militant stronghold in the country..."

It is a scandal in contemporary international law, don’t forget, that while “wanton destruction of towns, cities and villages” is a war crime of long standing, the bombing of cities from airplanes goes not only unpunished but virtually unaccused. Air bombardment is state terrorism, the terrorism of the rich. It has burned up and blasted apart more innocents in the past six decades than have all the antistate terrorists who ever lived. Something has benumbed our consciousness against this reality. In the United States we would not consider for the presidency a man who had once thrown a bomb into a crowded restaurant, but we are happy to elect a man who once dropped bombs from airplanes that destroyed not only restaurants but the buildings that contained them and the neighborhoods that surrounded them. I went to Iraq after the Gulf war and saw for myself what the bombs did; “wanton destruction” is just the term for it. – C. Douglas Lummis, political scientist

A terrorist is someone who has a bomb but doesn’t have an air force.

Iran, April 2003 – hit by US missiles during bombing of Iraq, killing at least one person

Pakistan, 2002-03 – bombed by US planes several times as part of combat against the Taliban and other opponents of the US occupation of Afghanistan

China, 1999 – its heavily bombed embassy in Belgrade is legally Chinese territory, and it appears rather certain that the bombing was no accident (see chapter 25 of Rogue State)

France, 1986 – After the French government refused the use of its air space to US warplanes headed for a bombing raid on Libya, the planes were forced to take another, longer route; when they reached Libya they bombed so close to the French embassy that the building was damaged and all communication links knocked out.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 13, 1985 – A bomb dropped by a police helicopter burned down an entire block, some 60 homes destroyed, 11 dead, including several small children. The police, the mayor’s office, and the FBI were all involved in this effort to evict a black organization called MOVE from the house they lived in.

As I have tried to point out several times, that is not the issue. el-Sisi is a brutal dictator in Egypt, and the U.S, feels no obligation to save the Egyptian people from him. Ditto Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia. Ditto dozens more similar cases. But only the civilians of Syria were worth helping, by funding a brutal civil war waged mostly by non-Syrian Wahhabi jihadis who oppose Assad because he is an Alawite.

kropotkin1951

The German state had to enter Czechoslovakia to protect the Sudeten German population from human rights abuses. The reason why the UN Charter was drafted like it was is because aggressors always use human rights as their excuse. Unfortunately the world lost its mind and now has entered into a world where US based NGO's point out the faults of selective regimes that do not bend the knee to imperial power and then they and the Western media ramp up the human rights propaganda, as a prelude to invading, for the good of the people.

I support the UN Charter not NATO's rule's based order and if you cannot see the intersection with the propaganda arm and the endless wars over the last two decade then you are really missing the action.

"In May, the AP claimed President Biden would soon put a stop to a US energy company's ongoing theft of oil from a region in Syria that's illegally occupied by US troops. So far it's not clear anything has changed. Syrian oil reportedly continues to be extracted by Americans, in what constitutes 'pillaging' under international law.

The company is owned by an ex-US special forces operative and a George W Bush administration appointee. Some may be surprised by this. Sadly, the boots-on-the-ground occupation in eastern Syria is just the tip of the iceberg.

Worse yet, even after 10 years of war and much of the country in ruins  - and despite recent relative stability that's allowed for the return of some of the millions of displaced - the Biden administration appears poised to prolong Syria's suffering..."

Unfortunately with Assad's brutal dictatorship the US had a lot to work with in destabilizing Syria as they had with Iraq especially after Saddam used chemical weapons on his own people. The Syrians had and have very many reason to revolt against Assad. I agree this doesn’t make American imperialism right or productive but there is obvious downsides to dictatorships like Assad’s and Husssein’s that lend themselves to calamity for their countries irrespective of the U.S. or NATO.

I agree with you completely. The Syrian and Iraq and Libyan governments were brutal in their suppression of Islamic extremists and as with all police state actions innocents get chewed up in the process. I remember when Canada used to send people they suspected of being jihadists to Syria to get tortured. Canada and Canadians are far from morally superior.

Pity the country that the US wants to help. The death toll from any of those three secular socialist one party states in their fight against jihadists were at most a few thousand a year with many of those not being innocents.

Our white man's burden has led to a death count in the hundreds of thousands. The cure is obviously far worse than the disease of sovereign states that are not controlled from Riyadh or Washington.

One-party governments run into problems when they are perceived as representing just a portion or faction of their country’s population. A one-party government can succeed if it is seen as representing the interests of at least most people in the country, if not almost all the country’s people. Arguably China is in this category. So was Singapore when it was a representative benevolent dictatorship. If the one-party governments in Iraq, Libya, and, Syria had been perceived as representative benevolent governments they would likely still be doing well ruling their respective countries today. Unfortunately they were perceived as ruling in the interests of a faction of their population and not in the interests of their whole population and this led to catastrophe.

NDPP

No, actually they were perceived as being vulnerable to US hegemonic designs urged on by pro-Israel neocons to destroy '7 countries in five years.' And so it went until stopped in Syria, not by the anemic and collaborationist western left but by 'the evil Russian dictator'.

kropotkin1951

The similarity of the three countries is their massive oil reserves. China on the other hand is now strong enough to defend itself both militarily and culturally from the Western onslaught.

No matter how much Canadians insist that the Chinese people have no right to talk about plaything it still is not the truth. Their system is evolving because they have mechanisms for public input into policy issues. They have local elections that are not one party and citizens participate in because they believe they are electing that level of government. The people thirty years ago were very concerned about corruption and pollution. I note that they have stood up to the US "investors" both by going after CPC members and officials who were corrupt and by starting to regulate businesses and shutting down many extreme polluters.

Biden Orders U.S. Airstrikes in Syria Against Fighters with Alleged Links to Iran

The United States launched a series of attacks inside Syria this week, targeting what the Pentagon described as Iranian proxies. U.S. Central Command reports that on Wednesday U.S. helicopter gunships killed up to three “suspected Iran-backed militants” after two bases housing U.S. troops in northeastern Syria came under rocket fire. A day earlier, U.S. warplanes struck near Deir ez-Zor in an oil-rich region along Syria’s eastern border with Iraq. The Pentagon says President Biden ordered the airstrikes to target fighters linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Congress has not formally authorized U.S. military action in Syria, and last month about 60% of House Democrats voted to end the U.S. military’s role in Syria.

Israel Bombs Damascus Airport in Syria

Israel has bombed the Damascus International Airport in Syria again. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the bombing killed five Syrian soldiers and two members of Iran-backed groups. The United Nations recently revealed that an Israeli strike on the Damascus International Airport in June prevented the U.N. from flying humanitarian aid into Syria for two weeks. In recent years Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks inside Syria, including multiple attacks targeting airports.

The path to self-determination for the Syrian people is having open and fair elections. Unfortunately that doesn't seem like it can happen for the foreseeable future. I agree that it would be best if there was no interference in Syria from abroad, be it from NATO, Iran, Israel, Russia, or ISIS.

I don't know anything about the conflicts in Syria. It isn't a democratic country so the people don't have self-determination. Generally speaking NATO and Israel are always wrong.
