The January 6th Riot would have been much more infamous had Trump's rioters succeeded in intercepting and eliminating politicians like Pence, Palosi, and many other politicians like AOC, Romney, Schumer, and more Democratic politicians. In that case it is even possible that Trump would have been able to hang onto power or that Biden would have been prevented from being officially certified the winner.

That is a slight majority and the large minority believe that Trump won. I put no faith whatsoever in the idea that because the American people believe something it means it is true. They appear to be exceptionally dumb in many areas.

If you are referring to my post I certainly was not quoting anyone. Bolivia was a coup, Honduras was a coup, Haiti was a coup. The Capital Hill was a "coordinated" riot with less planning than the protestors in Toronto at a G8 summit. We sent anarchists to jail for planning those protests while accompanied by an agent provocateur. They were arrested before the summit for planning to disrupt traffic. I would bet that the Capital Hill crowd had an agent from most of the 17 spy agencies presuming that like the RCMP they also use agent provocateurs. Besides its hard to keep up with all the "intelligence" operatives that regularly stand up in front of committees and cameras and contradict each other. Personally every time I hear an agent from any agency I just keep in mind that part of spy craft is the art of deception and taking anything a trained liar says as proof is a ridiculous proposition.

Judge sanctions pro-Trump lawyers who brought 'frivolous' election fraud lawsuits
(CNN)A federal judge ordered sanctions Wednesday for Sidney Powell, Lin Wood and several other lawyers who worked on Trump-aligned lawsuits seeking to challenge the results of the 2020 election.
US District Judge Linda Parker, of the Eastern District of Michigan, said the lawyers had "engaged in litigation practices" that were "abusive and, in turn, sanctionable. Sanctions are required to deter the filing of future frivolous lawsuits designed primarily to spread the narrative that our election processes are rigged and our democratic institutions cannot be trusted," the judge wrote in a 110-page opinion.
I presume that it is just serendipitous that she was appointed by Obama. Its not like the US judicial system is so totally partisan that it is no longer a functioning legal regime.

U.S. Capitol Police officers who were attacked and beaten during the Capitol riot filed a lawsuit on Thursday against former U.S. president Donald Trump, his allies and members of far-right extremist groups, accusing them of intentionally sending a violent mob on Jan. 6 to disrupt the congressional certification of the election.
The suit in federal court in Washington alleges Trump "worked with white supremacists, violent extremist groups, and campaign supporters to violate the Ku Klux Klan Act, and commit acts of domestic terrorism in an unlawful effort to stay in power."

What I find extremely puzzling is how anyone can believe that the US is a democracy, let alone a model for anyone else's governmental system.
The US ceased to be a model for the world over 150 years ago. Our system here in Canada is also archaic and anachronistic. If we were establishing our constitution today it would look different. It would likely include positive rights, environmental rights, and proportional representation.
That these Trump freaks got anywhere near the White House, let alone live in it, is a massive American tragedy.

Melania Trump declined her chief of staff’s suggestion she condemn rioters who attacked the US Capitol on 6 January, according to a new book by the spurned aide who also says the former first lady believed her husband’s lie that his defeat by Joe Biden was the result of electoral fraud.
According to Politico, reporting the first details of the hotly anticipated book, I’ll Take Your Questions Now: What I Saw in the Trump White House, Stephanie Grisham also compares Melania Trump to Marie Antoinette.
The first lady was like “the doomed French queen”, Grisham reportedly writes. “Dismissive. Defeated. Detached.”
Grisham worked for Melania Trump either side of a nine-month spell as press secretary to Donald Trump in which she did not hold a single press-room briefing.

Political journalists are both-siding a “crisis” caused entirely by the GOP

Republican congressional leaders are flagrantly ginning up a major political and financial crisis — safe in the knowledge that the Washington press corps will blame both sides.
At issue is a formality: raising the debt ceiling so that the U.S. government can continue paying the bills as previously appropriated by Congress.
But Republicans are refusing to go along, threatening a catastrophic government default and shutdown that could send the U.S. economy into an immediate recession and destabilize global markets.
They’re saying that keeping the government solvent is a Democratic problem now.
It’s an abandonment of the responsibility of governing. It is aberrational behavior by a political party that is willing to take extreme and potentially damaging action to score political points. It’s a hostage crisis.
And by not calling it out for what it is, the political press is enabling it.
Predictably, the Washington Post on Tuesday headlined its story “U.S. careens toward shutdown, financial crisis amid congressional stalemate.” Reporter Tony Romm describes — but doesn’t question –the “political standoff” in which Republicans “refuse to raise the cap out of opposition to President Biden’s broader agenda — even if it means grinding the country to a halt.”
And if the blame is generally apportioned to both sides, it nevertheless seems like the onus is always on Democrats to fix the problem.
As Romm’s Washington Post colleague Jeff Stein writes, “The White House is in a bind” because “GOP lawmakers refuse to help Democrats avert a national financial catastrophe, leaving the administration with few easy answers as time runs out.”
Stein notes that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell “has not communicated any requests to the administration of what he wants in exchange” for Republican votes. Then Stein decries the fact that “there are no negotiations to resolve the impasse.”
The Associated Press characterized the Democratic effort to push ahead with a vote as “all but daring Republicans who say they will vote against it despite the risk of a fiscal crisis.”
And rather than acknowledge that threatening shutdown and default is a now a go-to for an increasingly anti-government Republican Party, the AP benignly calls this “an all-too-familiar stalemate.”
Democrats chose to combine stopgap legislation to keep the government funded with the debt ceiling suspension – neither of which should be remotely controversial. New York Times reporters Emily Cochrane describes the move as “setting up a clash with Republicans.”
Coming pretty darn close to putting the blame entirely on Democrats, Cochrane writes that “the decision by Democratic leaders to attach it to legislation lifting the federal debt limit through Dec. 16, 2022 could ultimately jeopardize a typically routine effort to stave off a government shutdown, heightening the threat of fiscal calamity.”
Bloomberg headlined its piece “Democrats Dare GOP, Link Debt Limit to Vital Spending Bill.” Reporters Erik Wasson and Billy House write that “neither side has articulated a strategy for getting past the standoff and avoiding a default, which Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has warned would cause ‘irreparable harm’ to the U.S. economy.”
Another advantage for the GOP is the distraction that this debate creates from actually serious issues that Democrats are trying to address. It also gives reporters the opportunity to write about Democrats in disarray. From a Monday Post article by Tony Romm:
For now, the political eruption sets up a furious, last-minute sprint for [Democratic leaders] Pelosi and Schumer in the final weeks of September, a period during which they had hoped to focus their attention on securing roughly $4 trillion in new initiatives targeting healthcare, education, immigration, infrastructure and climate change. It also marks one of the most significant tests to date for Democrats’ narrow yet powerful majorities — as well as Biden’s political prowess in keeping his party together.
Former New York Times reporter Catherine Rampell is now free to point out the obvious, as an opinion columnist for the Washington Post. “Democrats always have to be the grown-ups and prevent infantile Republicans from trashing the Constitution and causing a global catastrophe,” she writes. “[T]hat’s apparently how our government works now.”
Rampell also explains why Democrats aren’t keen on shoving the debt ceiling increase into the budget package they intend to pass with a simple majority vote in the Senate, using the “reconciliation process.” “The reconciliation process… allows only raising the debt limit to a specific number, not suspending it. Democrats worry that Republicans will exploit voter confusion and mount (misleading) attacks against Democrats about that scary new number,” Rampell writes.
So it’s really all about campaign ads.
How can the Republicans be so confident that the mainstream media won’t make it clear who’s to blame? Because it’s so damned predictable.
In 2013, when Senator Ted Cruz and his fellow Republicans shut down the government for 16 days in an attempt to defund Obamacare, the Washington Post blamed it on a “bitterly divided” Congress that “failed to reach agreement,” while the New York Times called it “a bitter budget standoff” left unresolved by “rapid-fire back and forth legislative maneuvers.”
As I wrote at the time, how can democracy self-correct if the public does not understand where the problem lies? And where will the pressure for change come from if journalists do not hold the responsible parties accountable?

The US is having a debt crisis and somehow you think it is about Trump when it predated his arrival on the political stage. He was still a real estate grifter when the crisis's started. 2011 Debt Crisis
In April 2011, Congress delayed approval of the fiscal year 2011 budget, almost causing a government shutdown. Republicans objected to the nearly $1.3 trillion deficit, then the second-highest in history.2 The two parties compromised on $38 billion in spending cuts, mostly from programs that hadn't used their funding.3
A few days later, the crisis escalated. Standard & Poor's lowered its outlook on whether the United States would pay back its debt to "negative." There was a 30% chance that the country would lose its AAA S&P credit rating within two years.
S&P was concerned that Democrats and Republicans would not resolve their approaches to cutting the deficit. Each side had plans to cut $4 trillion over 12 years. The Democrats planned to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire at the end of 2012.
By July, Congress was stalling on raising the $14.294 trillion debt ceiling. Many thought this was the best way to force the federal government to stop spending. It would then be forced to rely solely on incoming revenue to pay ongoing expenses. It would also wreak economic havoc. For example, millions of seniors would not receive Social Security checks.
Ultimately, the Treasury Department might default on its interest payments. That would cause an actual debt default. It's a clumsy way to over-ride the normal budget process. Surprisingly, demand for Treasuries remained strong, but interest rates in 2011 began falling, reaching 200-year lows in 2012.4
In August, Standard & Poor's lowered the U.S. credit rating from AAA to AA+.5 That action caused the stock market to plummet. Congress raised the debt ceiling (by passing the Budget Control Act of 2011) to $16.694 trillion. It also threatened sequestration, which would trim roughly 10% of federal discretionary spending through fiscal year 2021.6
The drastic cut would be avoided if a Congressional Super Committee could create a proposal to reduce the debt by $1.5 trillion.7 By November 2011, it realized it could not. That allowed the debt crisis to creep into 2012.
2012 Debt Crisis
The debt crisis took center stage throughout the 2012 presidential campaign. The two candidates, President Obama and Mitt Romney outlined two different strategies for tackling America’s flagging economic health. After the election, the stock market plunged as the country headed toward a "fiscal cliff." That was when the Bush Tax cuts expired, and the sequestration spending cuts began.
The uncertainty surrounding the fiscal cliff in 2012 was hurting the economy. Congress avoided it by passing the American Taxpayer Relief Act. It reinstated the 2% payroll tax and postponed the sequestration cuts until March 1, 2013.8 On January 1, 2013, the approval of a Senate bill avoided the fiscal cliff in 2013.9

The U.S, debt is very manageable. The G.O.P. only pretends to worry about debt when the president is a Democrat. The Republicans like sabotaging the U.S. economy to hurt the Democrats and prevent expanding government services. The Republicans love increasing the debt to reduce taxes on the rich and corporations.
They used to claim that the revenue generated from cutting taxes would more than make up for the resulting loss of money to the treasury. But they've stopped arguing that, except for a few diehards. Their goal, as its always been, is to deprive the treasury of revenue and force cuts in spending.
