Lots of feminist organizing – particularly around International Women’s Day – is very women-centric. A common challenge to inclusivity and accessibility in women’s organizing is the lack of clear welcoming and invitation to trans women. This blog post from “The F Word” blog is a few years old, but lays out this issue in relation to International Women’s Day events quite well. The main idea here is understanding the difference between implicitly excluding and explicitly welcoming trans women. Inviting “all women” to an event is not the same as assuring trans women of their safety and a desire to hear their views and have their support.

Here is a guide to creating trans-inclusive spaces that might be helpful for activists organizing events, or to those leading community service organizations.
