A burst pipe at the brand new Vancouver Convention Centre has delayed the Public Service Alliance of Canada’s national convention. Water began spilling out into one of the main meeting halls at the Centre just as the morning session of the union convention was getting underway. Delegates were cleared out of the building and told to return at 2p.m.
The massive new Convention Centre building is a striking facility with a spectacular location on Vancouver’s Coal Harbour. In addition to this week’s PSAC convention, the Liberal Party of Canada will be holding its national convention at the facility, starting later this week. The construction of the Centre was one of several high profile ‘boondoggles’ overseen by the B.C. Liberals of Gordon Campbell, as building costs ran hundreds of millions of dollars over budget.
