Dear rabble readers,

I first was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2019 — but I am not new to politics. I was raised in a family dedicated to fighting for justice and equality.

From a young age I understood how essential the mobilization of people and leaders on the ground is when it comes to holding governments accountable. rabble’s independent journalism does just that — it empowers people across the country with the knowledge they need to mobilize and take meaningful action.

As a community-funded organization, rabble relies on the support of readers just like you and me. I encourage you to consider investing in independent media today by joining rabble at any level. Giving monthly – beginning with just $3 a month – is the best way to help keep quality, corporate-free journalism available 365 days a year.

Why now is the time to mobilize together

When individuals come together and organize, the impact they collectively have grows as their numbers increase. When many people give what they can, it has the same effect. Please join rabble at any monthly level you can afford – it will make a difference.

As an organizer, an educator and an MP, I am proud to be a regular guest on rabble’s Off the Hill political panel. This unique forum raises awareness about the issues that matter most. It provides an opportunity for community leaders to connect with people about the issues they are championing, locally and federally.

These are critical times we are living in… We are facing the climate crisis, growing racism, corporate dictatorship and inequality. But there is hope: if we mobilize together. As an MP, I advocate for climate justice, gender equality, Indigenous sovereignty, affordable housing and a guaranteed livable basic income. These are issues we need to take action on together, right now.

The choice is ours

We must move towards a future where all people living in Canada can do so with dignity, security and human rights. This future is possible, it is simply a political choice.

I know rabble shares this vision for a better, and more equitable, future for us all. I encourage you to support rabble today and help ensure that progressive voices are heard – loud and clear – by the decision-makers.

In solidarity,

Leah Gazan

Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Centre, NDP Critic for Children, Families, and Social Development, Critic for Women and Gender Equality, Deputy Critic for Housing, and member of Wood Mountain Lakota Nation, located in Saskatchewan, Treaty 4 territory
