Dear rabblers,

rabble.ca is a form of fight-back. It is a fight-back against the narratives of private over public, of business over labour, of “me” over “us.” Our community media is just that: about, by and for communities to explore the issues that need to be discussed. We think rabble helps us all to learn, challenge, grow and work to make Canada a better place.  Will you help us build and strengthen our work by becoming a member of rabble.ca or if you are already a member, by increasing your membership level? You can sign up right now for as little as $5/month at https://rabble.ca/membership

In the spirit of promoting a more democratic and equitable Canada we are proud that our site is 100% free to access and has been since we started in 2001. This means we survive because of support we get from community members.  Your monthly donation of $5, $8, $15, $25 or $50 is crucial to our survival. Plus, with your membership donation of at least $60/year you can receive a free subscription to one of more than a dozen leading Canadian independent magazines.  If you give at least $8/month we will also send you our new book “Best of rabble.ca 2009.” If you can give more, we hope you will consider upping your donation to $15, $25 or $50 per month.

As you likely know rabble brings a broad range of voices to our site through articles, blogs, podcasts, videos, book reviews, discussion board, links to civil society groups, news from around the web, our community calendar and the other features that make rabble a dynamic source for alternative news and views. Over the past six months alone we have provided exclusive coverage of the Vancouver Olympics resistance; the climate talks in Copenhagen and in Cochabamba; we broke the story on Harper government shenanigans around the banning of British MP George Galloway; and the news about Amy Goodman’s border trouble.

We launched 14 issue pages on a range of specific items (including indigenous rights, the environment, labour, Haiti, and Gaza), launched a video commons and added new columnists, including a weekly video commentary section. We livestreamed events including addresses by Naomi Klein on Climate Debt and the Project Fly Home telethon — and much more than we can squeeze into this brief message.

There is much more to come as we mark our 10th year, beginning with our multi-media in-depth coverage of the G8/G20.

In other words, we deliver on our promise to use our members’ support to expand news coverage and analysis.  Please become a member or increase your membership right now: http://www.rabble.ca/about/membership.

We need your help, please join today.

Sincerely, rabble staff

P.S: Every year we produce a thorough annual report so the community knows how we spent its money to bring our news to the world.  This report can be found at: http://www.rabble.ca/about/annualreport
