The new Conservative government plans to eliminate existing federal funding to the provinces for early learning and child care programs. This money will be replaced by the Choice in Child Care Allowance. Heather Northrup, a parent and childcare advocate, resigned recently from the B.C. child care council. She explains why.

Vancouver city council rezoned a eastside park to allow a casino to operate there against the wishes of residents in the neighbourhood. A neighbourhood organization decided to take council to B.C. Supreme Court when they discovered that the city didn’t meet its own conditions before re-zoning the land. David Bornman is with the Hastings Park Conservancy.
