The F Word’s Pragya Esh speaks to Julia Paysen, Executive Director of the John Howard Society of B.C., about what we can do as communities when we witness violence against women and about ways to move forward with violent men outside of a flawed prison system.
They discuss how we can build community so perpetrators can take accountability for their violent behaviour and work to change their behaviour.
The John Howard Society is a Canadian non-profit organization that seeks to develop understanding and effective responses to the problem of crime and prison reform. It is named after John Howard, a philanthropist and early English prison reformer. This Society works with prisoners, parolees and probationers and their families, including adults children and youth, to help rebuild their lives; to reintegrate persons back into society at the end of their sentence, and prevent people from coming into conflict with the law in the first place.
The F Word seeks to facilitate feminist dialogue and use media as a foundation for positive social change. For more information on The F Word, please visit our website at: www.feminisms.org or email: [email protected]
