This month the United States passed a grim milestone – 1000 people executed since the death penalty was reinstated 30 years ago. Bryan Stevenson is executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative of Alabama. His organization has successfully overturned or reduced death sentences in more than 65 cases where people were unconstitutionally convicted or sentenced. He says the system is filled with error and with race and class bias.
