Cuchillo is the latest upscale restaurant to open in Canada’s poorest neighbourhood. Local housing activists have set up a picket on the sidewalk outside and are asking patrons not to enter. Richard Marquez is an anti-displacement activist from San Francisco now working as a social worker in the Downtown Eastside. He speaks with Redeye host Jane Williams.

Redeye is a three-hour live radio show produced by a collective based in Vancouver, B.C. If you live in the Vancouver area and are interested in working in alternative media, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t need to know anything about radio production – we provide lots of training and support. To find out more about the people behind this podcast, check out our website.
