The Call Out: Toronto, ON, October 21, 2001 – On Saturday, Occupy Toronto will join with the existing Grassroots Community Groups, Tenant’s Rights Activists and Labour Unions to voice our shared opposition to the corporate agenda of privatization and cuts to jobs and services currently being championed by Mayor Rob Ford.
We will be leaving the St. James Park Occupation Site at 2:00pm on Saturday and marching to Nathan Phillips Square, where we will be holding a rally with speakers from OCAP, Justice for Janitors, Tenants for Social Housing, Library Workers Union and Unite Here Local 75 – plus special guests. We are hoping for this to be the largest demonstration since the beginning of the Occupation.

“I’ve been down at the Occupation site everyday since it started. It’s been really inspiring to see so many people with such different perspectives coming together, and to see them begin to realize that we’re all in this together. Whether its single mothers worried about their subsidized daycare spots, public workers concerned about losing their jobs, or students wondering how they’re going to pay off their debts – everyone seems to agree that this system is broken” says Mohammad Ali Aumeer, Protester.
“This is the first time I’ve been involved in something like this. Growing up, I’ve never really been interested in politics because I’ve never really seen the point. But this is different. It’s really changed the way I think about “Democracy” says Lisa Murray, Ryerson Student.
“This movement couldn’t have come along at a better time. Working people in this country are taking a beating from the likes of Ford and Harper, and it is truly amazing to see the younger generation stepping up like this. They deserve a future… and unless we do something, they’re not going to have much of one.” says Pam Johnson, OPSEU.
