Dear rabblers,

We’ve made our case and we hope you are with us. We weren’t sure what to expect when we started our summer fundraiser. This has been a tumultuous year, and a time of financial insecurity for many — not-for-profits certainly not excluded. But our community of organized and mobilized readers, such as you, has proven to us once again that even in the hardest of times, we have each others’ backs.

Now we just need a bit of a boost to finish our campaign. We are at $40,000 and we’re hoping that you can continue to take us to the finish line and meet our $50,000 goal. Can you support us once more?

Though we aimed our summer fundraising goal a little bit lower than last year to account for the times, things have been steady and we know we can still make it to the top of our goal with your help!

And there couldn’t be a more vital time to support independent media and alternative perspectives across this country.

We’ve had an amazing group of rabble supporters write to you over the last few weeks on why and how to support us:

Judy Rebick spoke about mainstream media paying lip service to social movements, but not the longevity and dedicated coverage that outlets like rabble provide.

Paul Taylor touched on rabble’s place as a conduit for underreported voices and stories to be amplified — including through features such as rabble’s Off the Hill webinar series.

Monia Mazigh asked us all to be vigilant in supporting independent media and sifting through the plethora of misinformation in light of the pandemic.

And Brent Patterson spoke about rabble’s role in seeking out the balance in areas such as climate grief and the fallout of the pandemic with rays of hope, carried by those fighting for better policies and a better world.

More than ever we believe a community-supported media approach is the best way to remain independent so we can provide “news for the rest of us,” even when times are tough. Can you chip in a few bucks, or pass this letter along to your friends and family? I know it’s a cliché, but the smallest gesture from many different hands really does go a long way.

People support us because they believe in progressive independent media. Still, thanks to our publishing partners we can offer additional incentives: all donations of $25 and up, and all monthly subscriptions, will be automatically entered into our weekly draw to win a signed copy of Seth Klein’s hot-off-the-press and long-awaited A Good War: Mobilizing Canada for the Climate Emergency. You will also be eligible for our grand prize draw for a special web kit to help with all of your at-home video conferencing needs.

Donate $8/month or more and we will send you a digital copy of Robyn Maynard’s Policing Black Lives, courtesy of Fernwood Publishing, as a sign of our appreciation.

In solidarity,

Matthew Adams, board president
