Maggie’s story: A beagle rescued from animal research

Meet featured Ghost Maggie. She used to live in a university lab but unlike the majority of beagles used for testing, Maggie was adopted out. With the help of Animal Alliance she now lives with two loving guardians for life, Melanie and Mark.  Shot and edited by Karol Orzechowski, with photos by Jo-Anne McArthur for The Ghosts in Our Machine, a film and web experience by Liz Marshall. theghostsinourmachine.com

The Ghosts in Our Machine is a cross platform project in development directed by Liz Marshall. It is a feature length cinematic documentary, and an immersive, unfolding call to action website. Together they seek to uncover the dark recesses of our anthropocentric society to illuminate the lives of individual animals used for human profit and consumption. It is poetically constructed around several images by award winning documentary photographer Jo-Anne McArthur (weanimals.org).
