sex-workers-rights

Sex work is often not recognized as even being labour. Since it’s not regulated in Canada, it can be a risky business. Working around police, creating solidarity and eventually forming unions are just some of the organizing done by sex workers across the country. In Ottawa, the union POWER (Prostitutes of Ottawa-Gatineau work, educate, resist) has created some guides to help other sex workers activists.

Their toolkit includes information for allies about common challenged faced by sex workers. It dispels myths and looks at the legal rights sex workers have.

Their report Taking Action is a strategy guide. It covers various campaigns used historically to fight for the rights of sex workers and safer workplaces. It also has a comprehensive list of services available in Canada.

Sex Worker Awareness had created this comprehensive guide on interacting with the media. The extensive manual goes over everything from evaluating the media request to writing a strong letter to the editor.
