The Call Out:
2011 saw the rise of a new global movement that questioned the core assumptions that underlie modern society. Beginning in New York and quickly spreading to hundreds of centers around the world, the “Occupy Movement” captured global attention with its call that we reconsider how we relate to corporations, governments and each other.
While the physical manifestations of the movement – occupy camps in cities around the world – have faded with colder weather and a lack of a focused game plan, the anger and questions remain.
On April 12th Ryerson University’s ACS 800 course will examine this issue in their annual community forum, looking at how corporations have been perceived in this new frame, how accurate are its criticisms and what have corporations done to respond to it.
The event will run from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Best Western Primrose Hotel at Carlton and Jarvis in downtown Toronto. Complimentary food and drinks will be available for all attendees. Come engage in multiple perspectives surrounding the Occupy Movement, and become involved in some heated debate! Supporters and criticizers of the movement are encouraged to attend.
