The Babble Book Club will be hosting Registered Professional Planner Eric Doherty of Ecopath Planning for the discussion of the transit-oriented book Straphanger: Saving Our Cities and Ourselves from the Automobile by Taras Grescoe this Friday April 12 at 2 p.m. EST/11 a.m. PST. Eric will join the conversation for one hour on our established babble thread to provide insight on the world of public transit and alternative transit and city planning.
Eric’s professional experience and recreational interests and associations will provide a great foundation for this discussion because his knowledge of community and regional planning for non-profit, public and private sectors will provide great commentary and depth. Also, Eric has an intimate understanding of Straphanger because he was rabble.ca’s book reviewer for this selection! Eric’s combination of experience within the field and familiarity with Straphanger will allow a wonderfully guided conversation of the myriad aspects Straphanger‘s pages present on transit, community and urban and suburban living.
For those new to babble or the Babble Book Club, here are some easy steps and tips to get going:
1. To ask questions and submit comments, you must register as a rabble.ca user, which creates an account that allows access to babble. babble is rabble.ca’s discussion board and online community where users can discuss ideas and opinions and signing up is free and easy! Any questions about babble can be answered or asked on this thread as well as the babble FAQ page.
2. The Babble Book Club sets up babble threads before our final discussion to allow for ongoing conversation — check out our thread for Straphanger. A babble thread just means the “page” where various babble users (babblers) can post their comments and questions. Babblers post in “real-time” and can also quote other users, use emoticons or post links!
3. Our discussion with Eric Doherty will take place Friday, April 12, 2 p.m. EST/11 a.m. PST in “real-time”. Eric will be present for one hour to answer questions and comments and more Babble Book Club members will be present as this time for a more interactive conversation. Babblers will need to constantly refresh the babble thread in order to see new comments and questions. After the “official discussion” the thread will remain open for readers to post questions and comments; however, they may not be responded to immediately!
So finish off those final pages of Straphanger and bring your questions and comments or just join in the conversation and see what everyone is saying about transit!
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday!
