The Corporation became an international hit when it launched a decade ago, with the companion book a bestseller. The film dazzled critics and stunned audiences with its revelations of an out-of-control business model, legally protected as a “person” and tasked to pursue profit above all else. Thousands of people from hundreds of organizations and groups rallied around the film to take a stand against corporate harm.
Now it’s time to gear up again because we’re not done yet! We’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to release a shorter, downloadable and affordable version of the film for educators and communities. Once the goal of $50,000 is reached, we will immediately gift the film to 1,000 schools, with new videos and resources available to anyone who pledges to “get up off the couch.”
Today, especially in a post-2008 financial crash world, the message has never been more relevant. Part film and part movement, The Corporation still has the power to transform audiences with its insightful and compelling analysis.
We “officially” launched the Get Up Off The Couch! campaign at a fundraiser screening in Vancouver (Canada) on May 26, and the audience was incredibly supportive. We’ve already raised almost $20,000!
Hearing your stories has reaffirmed our belief that the film still has an important role to play and it is just as relevant now as it was 10 years ago, if not more so. Until we change the very DNA of the corporation, they will forever be driven to act like psychopaths in the unrelenting quest for more profit. Wrecking economies, harming communities, even laying waste to the whole planet along the way.
