Bee populations have been declining dramatically over the past decade. There are a number of theories as to why we are seeing this increase in colony collapse, from climate change to pernicious mite infestations but bee keepers and environmental groups have tracked the bee deaths to increasing reliance on neonicotinoid pesticides.
The European Union has issued a ban on three types of neonicotinoid pesticides on crops that attract bees, stating that they cause “high acute risks” to bee populations. Health Canada has decided not to follow suit.
Sign this petition to demand that Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne ban the use of neonicotinoid pesticides. A third of our food supply is dependent on the work bees do as pollinators. If you have enjoyed a peach this summer take a minute to sign a petition in defence of this amazing little insect!
