rabble.ca, one of Canada’s leading progressive media sources, seeks an editor to tend, coordinate, grow and promote the organization’s dynamic opinions sections on a daily basis, as part of a busy online news organization.
The position
The Opinions Editor is a senior editorial role at rabble.ca, and at 20-24 hours per week, is a daily presence in the news organization.
The Opinions Editor will value timely and clear communication, is organized and is an excellent text editor, with senior digital news media, editing and promotion experience.
The Opinions Editor is a Canadian news buff who thrives on keeping up with and engaging in discussion of mainstream media, in addition to the alternative press. While developing an understanding of rabble’s positioning in the media landscape, the Opinions Editor is aware of the critical importance of media democracy, and the power and possibilities of independent media in the face of the changing landscape of news production and dissemination.
Broadly, the Opinions Editor deploys rabble.ca’s editorial vision and strategies, managing the opinions sections of the website: our host of committed columnists, active bloggers and weekly guest opinion pieces.
Daily, the Opinions Editor updates rabble’s editorial calendar with planned columns, edits, publishes and promotes blogs, reviews and responds to the editor email for opinion pitches on breaking news and coverage priorities.
