On Sunday July 24, two policemen beat Abdirahman Abdi to death. Nimao Ali recorded the incident. As she said “I had my six-year-old when I was recording and it broke my heart. I had to cover his eyes with one hand while I recorded, and I’m thinking, ‘OK, what’s going to happen to him when he grows up?’ So it is a fear and it is something that needs to be addressed and it’s something we need to speak out about.”
CBC also reports the Nimao Ali is the spokesperson for the family and according to her “The focus of the family now is to get ready for funeral services and deal with everything else as time comes.”
As the community mobilizes we need to help to support the family and community around Abdirahman Abdi.
A gofundme campaign was launched to raise 20,000 CAD to pay for the funeral expenses. As of July 27 they have not reached their goal. Make a donation here.
