Recently, four Windermere secondary school students in Vancouver — Chitha Manoranjan, Rachelle Wong, Neelam Khare and Peggy Lam — participated in a ‘job shadow’ program with rabble.ca. They contributed as much as they learned, designing images for rabble’s front page — their creative graphics highlighted the World Social Forum and Canada’s budget showdown — helping post stories and working on their own opinion and news articles.

To get an idea of how seriously these students take critical, independent media, check out the editing and writing work they have done with The Windermere Word, their school newspaper. In the lead up to Valentine’s Day, Neelam Khare and Peggy Lam challenged their peers to think about the real cost of gift-giving around this holiday in their article, ‘Gifts of love or gifts of blood?:’

Not satisfied with their journalistic contributions to rabble, these precocious students even made their very own Ruckus, paying homage to our mascot.

All of the staff at rabble.ca would like to thank the Windermere students, and we all look forward to their future work in journalism or whatever field they choose to pursue.
