President Manuel Zelaya of Honduras was ousted in a coup d’etat on June 28. The illegal ouster has been condemned by the entire international community. Today, Zelaya made a surprise announcement that he had returned to the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa. The coup regime, headed by Roberto Micheletti, initially denied reports of Zelaya’s return. But U.S. officials have now conceded that he is indeed back, reportedly holed up in the Brazilian Embassy.
