Just over two months after the first SlutWalk took place in Toronto, approximately 400 demonstrators gathered in front of Hamilton’s City Hall before embarking on a march through the streets of downtown. SlutWalk Hamilton was the latest in a string of marches aimed at raising awareness about sexual violence and demanding an end to victim-blaming and slut-shaming.
The now-international movement has seen marches across Canada, the United States and around the world, including one planned in London, England on Saturday. Speakers at the Hamilton rally included Lenore Lukasik-Foss, director of the Sexual Assault Centre Hamilton and Area (SACHA) and Deb Nanson, co-founder of Terry’s Evergreen Addiction Recovery Services.
