Wikipedia has helped bring a lot of new information about people that ordinary encyclopedias missed. However, there are still a lot gaps. Many women and people of colour have tiny blurbs or nothing about them at all on the site. Many have made important contributions as artists, writers, thinkers, and have books written about them. Let’s take this on!
In cities across Canada, people are coming together to edit and build wikipedia posts about people they feel should have better pages about them. Google these initiatives to find out about groups in your community. Otherwise, if you have some time right now, open wikipedia.com, search for people you admire, and make sure their pages reflect what you know about them.
