Tens of thousands of people are languishing in prisons in the US because they are not able to pay bail before going to trial. There is now a growing movement to bring this discriminatory system, which creates different paths to trial for the rich and the poor, to an end. 7 communities which have now abolished cash bail and currently there are challenges in more than 12 states.
On Mothers Day, prison reform organizations in Oakland CA, Los Angeles CA, St. Petersburg FL, Montgomery AL, Memphis TN, Minneapolis MN, Durham NC, Atlanta GA and beyond are going to be bailing as many moms as they can out of jail as they build the movement to end cash bail in the US.
