Over 100 people are dead and we are all reeling and trying to help. Today, across Canada, thousands of people stood in silent vigil, people put up thoughtful analyses…and what came to their minds, and tried to stand up against the horrifying attacks.
Hundreds of people are stranded in Canada and the US who need a place to stay. If you have a place to offer, if you are looking for a place to stay, connect using #strandedinCanada or #porteouverte.
If you want to donate to organizations that are currently on the ground helping people in Paris, here are a few that I know of:
- The French Red Cross which quickly mobilized volunteers
- Doctors Without Borders
- Secours Catholique-Caritas France
- French Secours Populaire
And while changing our facebook photos, and posting in solidarity makes us feel better, read this great post by Claire Bermish, which was sent to me by a friend when I changed my picture. My profile picture will remain changed but I will take her message to heart to “keep these victims ( Beirut, Syria, Paris, Palestine) around the globe in mind — every, single man, woman and child who has, who is, and who will suffer the maiming, horror, torture, and death that’s as necessary to war as those who take up arms — when you next excuse a politician’s stance on war, because the rest of his or her platform seems really promising.” Let’s act to end these wars and violence.
Let me know if you know of any other ways to help at [email protected].
