Whirl-Mart is a form of culture jamming that began in 2001 and has since spread internationally. Participants silently push empty carts through the aisles of a large retail store without purchasing anything as a form of performance art. These events allow activists to reclaim space peacefully while taking symbolic action against consumerism.
