The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty happens worldwide on October 17.Though it was recognized by the United Nations, the first demonstration around the day took place in 1987 in Paris, France. The day is used as a rallying point for activists to draw attention to classism and inequality in their communities that sustain and create poverty and violence.
