Who’s ready for some Feel Good Friday?
We’ve got some inspiring stories of activism success, the positive effects of wage increases (who would have guessed paying people good wages helps?), John Oliver and spelling bee semifinalists being great.
Have a wonderful Friday and rest of the weekend 🙂
- Guess what happens when low wage workers suddenly get a living wage? They’re able to live.
- An oldie, but a goodie! In 2011, Eriel Tchekwie Deranger travelled to Paris to confront the Board of France oil giant Total, over the tar sands. She knows what’s up.
- Activism for the win! Massive protests across Canada against Monsanto forced licenses for genetically modified alfalfa to be put on hold.
- After a flood of calls demanding the disgusting and transphobic article on Laverne Cox be taken down, it was, and an apology later issued, while activist groups continue to work with trans leaders, petitions keep circulating and demands to hold editors accountable keep happening. Excellent stuff.
- Toronto public library lines up a great collection of LGBT-themed books for families and children to celebrate Pride!
- Burnaby, B.C. has refused to work with Kinder Morgan because of the Trans Mountain pipeline route. The company is trying to force its way in, but the local government seems to be holding strong! Woot!
- This cat was reunited with his family after a year and a half. Happy tears. Too many happy tears.
- YES. SO MUCH YES. The Vancouver Hobbit House — or what I like to call the Snow White House — has been approved for preservation and restoration.
- Most agree: now that’s how you apologize when you do something terrible.
- Seattle, you’re on a roll. On Monday, Seattle became the U.S. city with the highest minimum wage: $15 an hour. Boom.
- TORONTO BLUE JAAAAAAAYS! Top of the division what what!
- John Oliver sums up the debate on net neutrality: “They should be calling it ‘preventing cable company f*ckery.'”
- Spelling Bee Semifinalists Set To Ultimate Warrior’s Intro Music. SPELLING BEE SEMIFINALISTS SET TO ULTIMATE WARRIOR’S INTRO MUSIC. These kids are awesome!
- Do you like t-shirts? Do you want to stop Harper? Well you are in luck because rabble’s Harper stopper t-shirts satiate your need for both!
