Author Archives: Laurel Smith
Laurel likes to think of herself as a true Gemini: she has a passion for the theatre, which she indulges in as a playwright and director when not working for rabble, and also unbelievably adores doing accounting and administration! She also loves her beautiful daughter Kate and her wonderful hubby, activist Matthew Behrens. In addition to her work as a playwright, she also writes regular book reviews for Quill & Quire. Laurel has an MBA in arts and media administration from York, a prospective MA in Drama from U of T and an undergrad degree in opera from Wilfrid Laurier, and is also Artistic Producer of Burning Passions Theatre, dedicated to the stories of women and youth. Laurel is a founding member of Homes not Bombs and TASC (Toronto Action for Social Change), and a founding board member of St. Clare’s Multifaith Housing Society, a non-profit affordable housing organization.
