Louisette Hinton is a contributor to rabble’s Retiree Matters column. Louisette is Member at Large on the Executive Board for Women’s Issues with the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada (CURC). In 1983, she was responsible for Women’s Affairs for the Quebec Provincial Council of the UFCW and in 1984, became the first woman to be appointed Executive Secretary of that same organization. In 1992, she joined the UFCW National Office in Toronto, as International Representative and Coordinator of Women’s Issues. Louisette participated on numerous working committees with the CLC, as well as the Ontario and Quebec Federations of Labour. For 24 years, she was also an Executive Vice-President of the CLC, President of NDP Quebec’s Federal Section and VP of the NDP Executive Board (Canada). In 2008 she retired from the labour movement and joined the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada.
