Maya Bhullar has over 15 years of professional experience in such diverse areas as migration, labour, urban planning and community mobilization. She has a particular interest in grassroots engagement, effective representation of constituents’ interests and in helping organizations to better achieve their stated goals. Her experience comes from the public sector and from working with labour unions. She has held research and policy positions with the U.S. Department of Labour, the Habitat International Coalition, American Federation of Labour-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Since 2010, she has held the position of research coordinator with SEIU Local 2 Canada, helping to build campaigns for the rights of low-wage workers. She has been a speaker at many events including the World Social Forum and at the Global Labour University. She has a master’s degree in international development economics and urban development from American University, Washington D.C., and a bachelor of arts in anthropology and international relations from the State University of New York at Cortland, N.Y.
