We’re happy to report that your OpenMedia.ca team will be participating on the side of Canadians to protect hard-won cell phone customer protection rules that are under legal threat from Big Telecom conglomerates.
Regular readers will know that Big Telecom have gone to federal court to try to delay important parts of the CRTC’s new customer protection rules that were agreed on in June. Let’s not forget that these new rules were written with help from countless Canadians who took part in the CRTC’s consultation process.
As soon as we received word that the Federal Court of Appeal had granted Big Telecom permission to take Canadians to court, your OpenMedia.ca team swung into action. Now, with the help of our lawyer friends at the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC), we can state we’ll officially be a party in this case.
This means we’ll have standing to argue on your behalf that Big Telecom should not be enabled to delay important new customer-friendly changes until nearly 2017.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story – we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop about what we’re doing to safeguard Canadians.
You can help right now by sending Industry Minister James Moore a clear message to rein in our telecom giants – and by using our quick online tool to get your message in your local newspaper.
Keep speaking out, Canada!
