Maple Spring – A Discussion on the Fight Against Tuition Fees

The Deets:

Wednesday July 18, 2012
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Curtis Lecture Hall B
York University
Toronto, ON

The Call Out:

Join us for a discussion on the fight against tuition fees in Quebec and Ontario!

Students in Quebec have been on strike for six months, refusing to return to classes until the Charest government reverses its plan to hike tuition fees by 75%.

Meanwhile in Ontario, students have been organizing against the McGuinty government’s poor public policies that have made Ontario the most expensive province in which to study. Much like Quebec, tuition fees have increased by 71% on the high end since 2006.

Come hear from student representatives from Quebec and Ontario, as well as speakers from Ontario’s labour movement on the student strikes in Quebec, lessons we can learn from them, and how we can organize to fight sky-rocketing tuition fees here in Ontario – and win!

FEATURED SPEAKERS:

Sarah-Jayne King – Chairperson, Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario

Hugo Bonin – Information Committee Member of La Coalition large de l’Association pour une Solidarité Syndicale Étudiante (CLASSE)
