Dear friends,

Nestle is trying to reverse London’s ban on the sale of bottled water on city property. They wrote a letter to Mayor Joe Fontana requesting a reversal of the ban. The letter was on the agenda of the Community and Neighbourhoods Committee Meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Nestle was present as a delegation. City council will vote on the matter on Monday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m.

What Londoners can do:

  1. Please send a letter to city council by filling out the webform at: http://www.insidethebottle.org/stop-nestles-bottled-water-push-london
  2. Please call your councillor to tell them you still support the bottled water ban. Get your city councillor’s contact information from http://www.london.ca/d.aspx?s=/City_Council/default.html
  3. Please attend the meeting and show city council there is interest in the community about this topic. (The public will not permitted to ask questions.)

Bottled water bans have occurred in over 80 municipalities and numerous universities and colleges across Canada because it is the right thing to do. These cities and educational institutions recognize that water is a basic human right, not a commodity sold to the highest bidder. London has made a difference. Tell your councillors you want to keep bottled water banned!

Please circulate this information to other residents of London.
