Mark your calendars — July 4 and 5 are key dates to hit the streets for Jobs, Justice and the Climate.
On July 5, Toronto will host a Pan American Climate Summit and an Economic Summit. Politicians will face a choice: listen to corporate leaders from across the Americas gathering to advance an economic austerity agenda that is increasing inequality and causing a climate crisis felt disproportionately in the global south — or listen to the people.
Thousands will take to the streets of downtown Toronto to March for Jobs, Justice and the Climate. If you’re close to Toronto, you do not want to miss this moment: click here to RSVP today.
Read the call to action for the July 5 march which outlines a vision embracing social justice, protecting our land, water, climate and people. The march is supported by a number of partners including environmental and social justice groups, unions and student groups.
The Council of Canadians is encouraging our supporters to attend the Toronto march. The Toronto and York chapters are involved in the mobilization and our Ottawa office is helping support a bus from Ottawa. The Hamilton chapter is also involved in organizing a bus from Hamilton to the march and the Peterborough and Guelph chapters are helping coordinate carpooling.
On July 4 there will be a national day of action for jobs, justice and the climate, as communities across the country stage actions to demand clean energy, not unnecessary tar sands expansion pipelines. Click here to find an action near you.
