Nothing sums up She’s Shameless: Women write about growing up, rocking out and fighting back, better than the anthology’s dedication page: “For all the shameless girls who knew there’s got to be something more and to all the shameless women who help them find out.”

It’s no surprise that an anthology edited by Stacey May Fowles and Megan Griffith-Greene, the publisher and editor behind Shameless magazine, is filled with pieces by some of the country’s finest female activists, artists and young feminists. After all, Shameless magazine has spent the last five years doing what the mainstream media isn’t doing — telling stories and providing information that teens actually want to read.

She’s Shameless officially launched on June 23rd, at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. Seasoned writers, Shannon Gerard, Shannon Webb-Campbell, Dianah Smith, and Zoe Whittall were joined by aspiring teen writers, Muffin, Mo Violet, Rachel Lee-Thomas and Shawna Dimitry.The evening, which was hosted by Emily Pohl-Weary, had many highlights, but among them was a reading by She’s Shameless contributor, Shannon Webb-Campbell, who read her piece “Think Pink.” Another highlight was a reading by Mo Violet, one of four teens who read work created in a writing workshop with novelist Ibi Kaslik.

She’s Shameless is the perfect reminder of the many fearless, intelligent and shameless women doing wonderful work across the country.–Jessica Rose
