A bill in the U.S. Congress has just been introduced to create a bi-partisan committee to investigate Bush and his administration in terms of national security. Robert Wexler, Barbara Lee, and John Conyers are the sponsors of the bill that Wexler says ” establishes a bi-partisan Select Committee tasked with making comprehensive recommendations on our national security policy – including those covering laws on torture, FISA law violations, wiretapping, civil liberties protections, among others. This committee would have all of the power of a standing committee, including subpoena power.”
If this happens it could be a good step to bring some more sunlight around what really was a bi-partisan problem, as leaders of the Democratic Party knew about the wiretapping and who knows what else. The quasi-progressive wing (or feather) of the Democratic Party might not be able to get this through, but we can hope.
