In advance of Saturday’s march, the local police appear to be targetting youth by searching their backpacks.
A large protest march will take place tomorrow starting at 1:00 pm local time (7:00 a.m. EST) from Christianborg Slotsplads (Parliament Square) to the Bella Centre (where the official climate negotiations are taking place).
We will be there carrying both the Council of Canadians banner and the “climate justice is water justice” banner that so many people signed at the recent Blue Summit in Ottawa.
In advance of this march, the local police appear to be targetting youth by searching their backpacks. Maude Barlow and I were just sitting in the train station when about twenty police marched quickly through the station and down to the platform where one would catch the train. They surrounded the youth, starting searching their bags, and had their notepads out to take their names (see photo). We have seen a number of similar scenes in the city today.
